The coming year is guaranteed to be a period of extraordinary economic and geopolitical uncertainty. Gartner's financial team recognizes that its enterprise clients will need special tools to survive and succeed in this difficult time. Therefore, we have created a special Predicts 2002 issue of the Financial Services Spotlight: a series of research reports designed to offer clear, actionable insight into the forces that will affect the financial industry in 2002.

Gartner cannot predict what events and trends will shape the world economy in the next 12 months, of course. We can, however, offer our clients a framework for decision making in this complex and difficult time. We have done this by developing best-, moderate- and worst-case scenarios.
