Gartner Predicts 2002: Sourcing in Europe

The year 2001 has been a turbulent one. The Sept. 11 tragedy has raised many questions across our multicultural global society and has initiated actions that will have far-reaching effects. It has also added substantial uncertainty to the political and economic scene and thus amplified the economic downturn that had already dominated this year. In the "Gartner Predicts 2002: Sourcing" edition of this Spotlight, we assessed the current situation of the IT services market in general and outlined predictions for its near- and midterm future (see Enterprise Service Spending Drivers Post Sept. 11). Although most of our findings and predictions on a global level are valid for Europe, we need to understand and accept that Europe has its own pace and distinct differences. It is far more heterogeneous in many respects than, for example, North America. This is particularly true for IT services, where local variety often determines the landscape.  Read more
