The ERP backbone's stability is essential to allow the successful implementation and support of post-enterprise-resource-planning projects. The SAP benchmark assesses the basic stability of the SAP backbone and its core functions from a cost perspective. It can, therefore, provide the framework and baseline from which enterprises then can assess the readiness of their backbones to take on new challenges. The investment in new challenges also requires an optimization of the current SAP infrastructure to allow the financial and staffing freedom required to implement the new SAP initiatives in the marketplace.
