People
Gartner is a trusted advisor on how to leverage technology for business success. Independence is at the core of our business and we manage it every day, with every analyst and every client.
Our objectivity and independence is a standard that is often tested, but never compromised. Gartner applies the following guiding principles to all of our relationships to ensure our independence:
  • Gartner analysts are not allowed to hold stock or make any other type of investment in the companies they cover.

  • Gartner analysts set the research agenda. They are not influenced by any other department within Gartner, by the Gartner board of directors or by Gartner clients.

  • Each piece of Gartner research goes through rigorous peer review by the worldwide analyst team and receives research director approval prior to publication.

  • There is no correlation between research coverage and client status. Gartner clients and nonclients alike are covered according to market performance or technology application.

  • When a firm or organization becomes a Gartner client, it is purchasing access to Gartner research and inquiry privileges with the analysts. Influence over research content or amount of research coverage is not, and has never been, for sale by Gartner.

  • Vendor briefings are a research tool of the analysts and are never a client deliverable.

  • Gartner performs no technology implementation whatsoever. We have no interest in seeing one technology solution succeed over another.

  • Gartner consulting clients may commission projects or studies for internal use only. No commissioned results from Gartner consulting engagements may be used publicly. The only exception is that of multiclient studies in which teams of competing clients work together to create industry studies or standards for publication. This policy is strictly enforced by the Gartner Vendor Relations team.

  • Gartner consultants have access to Gartner research and analysts to deliver insight for specific consulting engagements. Analysts deliver research and advice only; the analysts do not take client information away from consulting engagements for use in Gartner research.

  • The Gartner name and published materials are subject to copyright protection. To use the Gartner name, excerpt research or quote analysts in all vendor materials requires the express written permission of Gartner Vendor Relations. Quotes from Gartner may not be used by companies to endorse a vendor or product, and they cannot be used to criticize a vendor's competitor. Gartner pursues violations until corrected.
