STAMFORD, CONN., September 5, 2001 - Michael Fleisher, 36, who has served as CEO of Gartner, Inc. (NYSE: IT and ITB) since October 1999, has been named chairman of the board effective October 1, 2001.
"I am honored to be named Gartner's chairman," said Fleisher. "It is a privilege to work with 10,000 world-class clients, a distinguished board, and 4,600 employees who are some of the best and brightest minds in the industry."
Fleisher, who succeeds Manny Fernandez as chairman, has been instrumental in Gartner's rise to prominence as the leading technology advisor to business and government entities worldwide during his eight-year career at Gartner.
"Michael has a long record of successful leadership at Gartner -- highlighted by his last two years as CEO," said Fernandez. "Gartner's improved financial results flow directly from the initiatives and investments that Michael has championed as CEO. The strength of Gartner's value proposition remains exceptionally powerful for its clients."
Fleisher joined Gartner in 1993 and, later that year, was part of a team that led the company's initial public offering, as well as its 1998 move to the New York Stock Exchange. In addition, he has completed more than 30 acquisitions and investments that together have made critical contributions to Gartner's research capability and geographic expansion.
Prior to his CEO post, Fleisher was CFO during 1998. He previously headed up Gartner's business development team. From 1993 to 1996, Fleisher led Gartner Events, where he developed Gartner's Symposium/ITxpo into the world's premier IT strategic planning event.
Fleisher's previous business experience includes working from 1990 to 1993 at Bain Capital. He was a consultant at Bain & Company, a strategy consulting firm, from 1987 to 1990.
