STAMFORD, Conn., November 11, 2002 - Gartner, Inc. (NYSE: IT and ITB) today announced John Pescatore, Vice President of Security Research, has been chosen by the White House to moderate the upcoming Town Hall Meeting on the National Cybersecurity Strategy. The meeting will take place at Arizona State University on November 14, 2002.
The town hall meeting is held at the request of the President's Critical Infrastructure Protection Board (PCIPB), and is designed to raise public awareness about the importance of cybersecurity and to examine the views of concerned citizens.
Pescatore will speak following the opening remarks given by Dr. Michael Crow, President, Arizona State University. Pescatore is an expert in networking and Internet security, and will provide valuable industry insight relating to the National Cybersecurity Strategy. He has previously started and managed security consulting groups, and has previously worked for GTE, the National Security Agency (NSA) and the US Secret Service. He is an NSA-certified cryptologic engineer.
"All meaningful advances in Internet security over the past decade have come through public-private partnerships," said Pescatore. "Gartner believes the formation of an effective national cyber-security strategy that takes advantage of the combined strengths of industry and the Government is critical to keep up with increasingly more complex threats. These town hall meetings are a significant step in reaching that important goal."
The National Cybersecurity Strategy describes initiatives to secure U.S. information systems against deliberate, malicious disruption and to foster an increased national resiliency. The initial strategy draft has been developed by the President's Critical Infrastructure Protection Board as a means of ensuring our country has a clear road map designed to protect our IT infrastructure. The document has been developed in close collaboration with key sectors of the economy, and town hall meetings have been held around the country to discuss specifics of the draft. The Board will review all comments and advice received during these town hall meetings, and the President will approve the strategy in the next few months.
