Roles and Responsibilities
Monica Basso is a vice president in Gartner Research. She covers enterprise mobility, including the development, use, management and impact of smartphones and mobile applications. Since 2003, Ms. Basso has been leading Gartner's research on wireless e-mail and integrated messaging. She specializes in mobile personal communications, from e-mail, instant messaging, presence, unified communications and collaboration, to social networking. In addition, she covers the impact of mobility on people, society and organizations, and how social trends are affecting technology adoption. These include consumerization, democratization, digital natives, diversity and innovation. Ms. Basso also leads Gartner's research into the growing impact of virtualization technologies on mobile products.
Previous Experience
Ms. Basso has more than 18 years of experience in information and communications technology, having held both technical and management positions. Prior to joining Gartner, Ms. Basso worked at Alcatel as a business development manager and business unit manager, in the area of multichannel applications and Internet portals. Prior to that, she worked for TXT e-solutions as project manager for large European cooperative IT projects, covering Internet technologies and applications, business process re-engineering, and software engineering domains. Her initial experiences focused on software design and implementation as a software engineer for real-time embedded applications.
