Thomas Murphy is focused on IT organizations develop and deliver software in an efficient and effective fashion. He covers all phases of the life-cycle from requirements through software quality and testing. He is particularly interested in collaborative and agile practices and how organizations must use these to adapt to the increasing pace of change demanded by business to utilize cloud, and mobile technologies. Mr. Murphy provides guidance to Sr. IT management as well as IT professionals and also works with software and service providers to develop product strategies and positioning guidance. In addition to working at Gartner (and previously Meta Group), Mr. Murphy has also held positions at Microsoft, ObjectShare, ParcPlace, Digitalk, and Miller Freeman.
Previous Experience
Mr. Murphy has more than 25 years of experience in IT, spending time as a developer, product manager, technical editor and industry analyst. Prior to rejoining Gartner, he worked at Microsoft in the Visual Studio Team System group. Previously, he was an analyst with Meta Group and Gartner. He has served on the board of directors for the OMG and led product strategies at ObjectShare. Early in his career, he served as a technical editor at Software Development and AI Expert magazines and built custom tools for scientific research and embedded systems. His development experience includes embedded systems, Smalltalk, Java, and model-based environments and agile techniques.
