Roles and Responsibilities
Mike Rollings is a research VP within the Professional Effectiveness team. His research discusses what IT professionals need to know about transformation, innovation, human behavior, contextual strategy, collaborative organizational change, communication and influence, and cross-discipline effectiveness (e.g., enterprise architecture, IT portfolio management, governance). His research can be read by IT professionals with access to Gartner for Technical Professionals (GTP) research. Mr. Rollings joined Gartner on 1 January 2010 as a result of the acquisition of Burton Group, at which time he held the position of research director for Enterprise Architecture on the Executive Advisory Program team.
Previous Experience
Prior to joining Gartner, Mr. Rollings was managing principal for Momentum Strategies, a private consultancy performing strategic program management, data strategy, enterprise architecture and governance consulting. Experience gained at Momentum includes establishing a global program office for data quality and interoperability, as well as implementing related governance changes for a global payment processing organization. Prior to that, he was vice president and practice lead for Meta Group's domestic strategy consulting practice, providing IT strategy, enterprise architecture, IT investment management, portfolio and program management, and organization development consulting to Fortune 1000 and public-sector organizations. His role included the development and implementation of IT investment plans and IT management processes that align application, infrastructure and other technology investments with strategic business drivers and objectives. While at Meta Group, he created an enterprise architecture project delivery methodology and co-created Meta Group's value management and portfolio management method - an approach to create, analyze, balance and manage a given IT investment or asset portfolio. Prior to Meta Group, Mr. Rollings was responsible for enterprise architecture at Anheuser-Busch Companies (A-B). During his time there, he re-established the architecture planning process and provided guidance for solutions developed companywide. He also effectively managed a portfolio of systems for pricing administration, promotion execution, media operations and sales force automation and effectiveness. Mr. Rollings also created an information-based selling strategy made up of mobile and business intelligence technologies to improve selling process effectiveness.
