Roles and Responsibilities
Gavin Tay is a Research Director in Gartner Research and a member of the Content, Collaboration and Social team. With more than 17 years of industrial experience in the content management, portal and social media arena, his research focuses on the challenges faced by CIOs, business IT management and architect teams in the adoption, governance, migration and integration of these technologies. Mr. Tay has also been instrumental in constructing complex applications and advising numerous large multinational organizations in the government, telecommunications and financial sectors. He is frequently sought after for his keen understanding of strategies and best practices to complex business processes that solve real business issues. Mr. Tay is based in Singapore.
Previous Experience
Prior to joining Gartner, Mr. Tay was an IBM Certified Senior Practitioner, Open Group Master Certified and Technology Architect for IBM Software Group, ASEAN. In this capacity, he played a pivotal role in assisting IBM's broad client base in conceptualizing their portal and service-oriented architecture solutions. Mr. Tay has written in several journals on "socially translucent systems" and contributed technical articles to high-visibility trade publications. He has also conducted technology seminars internationally and has undertaken periodic competitive product evaluations to ensure that organizations are kept abreast of the latest developments in the industry.
Prior to joining IBM in 2004, Mr. Tay was with Borland Software as an architect evangelist. He kicked off his career with the Defense Agency as an e-commerce software engineer, which was where he embarked on the government's first e-commerce, B2B, B2C and B2E initiative.
