Roles and Responsibilities
Biswajeet Mahapatra, a Research Director in the IT Systems Security and Risk group, has a career spanning more than 18 years in many large IT organizations across the globe.
Mr. Mahapatra works closely with CIOs across the globe to assist them in defining their IT strategy, deriving metrics to help measure ROI in IT investments and to help charter future direction for maximizing returns in IT. He also works closely with IT vendors to help them understand the market, define a robust product road map, and effectively launch their products. With special focus on upcoming technologies like cloud, Mr. Mahapatra has been heavily quoted in both national and international media.
Mr. Mahapatra is an advisor to many governments across the globe for forming their cloud strategy, helping them formulate data privacy and protection policy/laws.
Previous Experience
Mr. Mahapatra helps CIOs do a reality check of their current IT strategy; he helps them plan a future road map for their IT department, drive key initiatives to help improve ROI and quality of service, and build a services-centric, cost-effective IT department. He also helps CIOs in benchmarking, optimizing their expenses and making their balance-sheet asset right, and helps choose the right roles and skill sets for people for the future IT organization. Mr. Mahapatra addresses inquiries on IT cost optimization, best-practice implementations, IT operations, ITIL, cloud strategy development, building virtualization and cloud practices business cases, workload automation, personal cloud, Nexus of Forces and its impact on data centers, and gives directions on future IT investment strategies.
Mr. Mahapatra has more than 17 years of experience in the IT industry. Prior to joining Gartner, he was involved in the development and implementation of ERP, project management tools, personal cloud products, identity and access management tools, OS and IT management tools for several major vendors. His previous responsibilities included product management and product marketing, program management, business process implementation, and project management.
Mr. Mahapatra holds an M.B.A. from XIM Bhubaneswar and a B.E. in production engineering. He is ITIL certified.
