Roles and Responsibilities
Gregor Petri is Research Director at Gartner, covering cloud computing, hosting, data centers and communications service provider strategies. Cloud computing is proving to be a transformational force that is rapidly changing the vendor, user and service provider landscape. Presenting and sharing perspectives on the impact of cloud computing and helping organizations plan for this transition are an important part of Mr. Petri's activities. Because the "new normal" being created by cloud computing is creating an increasingly important role for service providers, Mr. Petri is a member of Gartner's CSP Enterprise Markets team.
Previous Experience
Prior to joining Gartner, Mr. Petri was already a regular speaker at industry events and wrote one of the first cloud primers - "Shedding Light on Cloud Computing" (2009) - which was followed by many other cloud publications, including "Lean, or the art of cloud computing management" (2011). Sites around the world syndicated his LeanITmanager blog, and he was named by Cloud Computing Journal as one of the world's Top 100 Bloggers on Cloud Computing.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Petri worked as a management trainee in the office of the CIO at Akzo, helped roll out just-in-time manufacturing at Philips, and helped roll out several IT innovations, such as object-oriented ERP applications, mobile business applications and XML servers into Europe. Prior to his current position, he was senior director of product marketing EMEA at CA Technologies. Mr. Petri is a former board member of the Dutch Web-Services Association, the XML Users Group Holland and Geel-Zwart field hockey, where he still plays. He studied business economics and information technology in Rotterdam and Tilburg; during this study, he wrote and marketed one of the first European shareware applications.
