On 20 April 2009, Oracle and Sun Microsystems announced an agreement under which Oracle will acquire Sun for approximately $7.4 billion. The deal will likely close by 3Q09, and it will edge Oracle closer to becoming the No. 2 vendor in the enterprise software market.
