Field Research Email System Management: Technology Optimization With a Dash of Innovation
24 June 2011

Bill Pray

With the growing availability of software-as-a-service (SaaS) email, enterprises are rethinking everything about email, including vendors, implementation strategies, and costs. With SaaS implying that email is now a utility, enterprises need to decide whether they can truly treat email as a utility by putting it in the cloud. This is not a foregone conclusion: Maintaining email on-premises remains attractive because recent product changes have made running email in-house less expensive and email server applications more virtualization friendly. In this document, Research Director Bill Pray provides the research results obtained from client interviews regarding the technology issues, solutions, and considerations.
