Cisco's Software-as-a-Service 3C Gambit
5 October 2010

Bill Pray

Cisco Systems' entrance into the software-as-a-service (SaaS) enterprise communications and collaboration markets is a move into adjacent markets by a technology company better known for its networking hardware and services. Recent acquisitions by Cisco position it to compete with Microsoft and IBM for a share of these markets; however, Cisco is challenged by its incomplete strategy and roadmap. In this assessment, Research Director Bill Pray discusses where Cisco's WebEx SaaS offerings can be useful and where they cannot and offers details to help the enterprise decide whether WebEx services are the right choice.
