In 4Q08, worldwide sales of smartphones to end users reached 38.1 million units, an increase of only 3.7% on 4Q07. Global sales of smartphones for the whole of 2008 reached 139.3 million devices, up 14% compared to 2007. Samsung entered the top five vendors spot for the first time, RIM recorded an increase in sales, while Nokia's volumes continued to fall.
