Summary:

Edit research reports, and other documents, which may be time-sensitive. Assist in training analysts in publishing process requirements and editorial style, and negotiate with analysts to produce published research of the highest standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Edit assigned research
  • Make changes to edited materials directly into Gartner's publishing system
  • Discuss any issues with author/s as they arise
  • Take initiative to check and confirm statements, statistics and other material in written research submitted to Editing, as necessary
  • Take particular responsibility for document quality, timeliness and sensitive negotiations with analysts, in cases where this is necessary - e.g. analyst's native language is not English, or analyst is not amenable to compromise
  • Help shape the development of policies, standards and procedures within the Editing group and in relation to analysts
  • Help establish and implement quality controls throughout the workflow process
  • Work cross-functionally with all other teams/departments to improve workflow, procedures and application systems
  • Take part in departmental projects
  • Undertake continuous, job-related training to maintain editorial quality levels and improve individual skills.
Qualifications:

  • Six to eight years' editorial experience, preferably in the field of computer/communications technology, in a busy environment with strict deadlines - or working for newspapers, wire services, technical journals, or vendors (editing technical documentation)
  • Excellent English language skills: grammar, spelling, sentence structure
  • Experience working with editorial computer software, e.g. MSWord, Excel, Acrobat, Framemaker
  • Solid editing and writing skills
  • Tact, firmness, and sound intuition when dealing with analysts and others
  • A basic understanding of technical terms, finance and business terminology
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Educated to degree level, or equivalent
  • Ability to manage projects, and juggle a diverse workload
  • Quick to understand new concepts
