Board of Directors


Mr. Bingle joined Silver Lake in 2000 and is a Managing Director. He has significant experience in private equity investing, financial engineering, and large-scale mergers and acquisitions. Prior to joining Silver Lake, Mr. Bingle was a principal at Apollo Advisors, L.P. ("Apollo"), where he evaluated, structured, executed, and harvested a wide variety of private equity investments. Prior to Apollo, he worked as an investment banker in the Leveraged Finance Group of Goldman, Sachs & Co. Mr. Bingle holds a B.S.E. in Biomedical Engineering from Duke University. While at Duke, he completed a two-year fellowship for the National Science Foundation, the purpose of which was to develop new ultrasound technology for medical imaging. Mr. Bingle currently serves on the corporate boards of The Gerson Lehrman Group and IPC Systems, Inc. He's also a Term Member of the Council on Foreign Relations and serves on the Board of Visitors for Duke University’s School of Engineering, as well as the External Advisory Board of McKinsey & Company. Previously Mr. Bingle was a director of Ameritrade Holding Corp., Datek Online Holdings, Inc. and Instinet, Inc.

Bressler has been a director since February 2006. Mr. Bressler is a managing director of Thomas H. Lee Partners, L.P., a private equity firm that he joined in January 2006. From May 2001 through 2005, Mr. Bressler was Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Viacom Inc. Prior to joining Viacom, Mr. Bressler was Executive Vice President of AOL Time Warner Inc. and Chief Executive Officer of AOL Time Warner Investments. Prior to that, Mr. Bressler served in various capacities with Time Warner Inc., including as Chairman and Chief Executive of Time Warner Digital Media. He also served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Time Warner Inc. from March 1995 to June 1999. Before joining Time Inc. in 1988, Mr. Bressler was a partner with the accounting firm of Ernst & Young since 1979. Mr. Bressler is a director of Warner Music Group Corp. and a director of American Media Operations, Inc. Mr. Bressler also serves as Chairman for the Center for Communication Board, Duke University Fuqua School of Business� Board of Visitors, New School University�s Board of Trustees, the J.P. Morgan Chase National Advisory Board and the Columbia University School of Arts Deans� Council. Mr. Bressler holds a B.B.A. in accounting from Adelphi University.

Karen E. Dykstra joined our board and audit committee in July 2007.  Ms. Dykstra has been a partner of Plainfield Asset Management LLC, a registered investment advisor located in Greenwich, Connecticut, since January 2007, and Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer of Plainfield Direct LLC, also located in Greenwich, Connecticut (a direct lending and investment business of Plainfield Asset Management LLC), since May 2006. Prior thereto, she spent many years with Automatic Data Processing, Inc., located in Roseland, New Jersey, most recently as Chief Financial Officer from January 2003 to May 2006, Vice President — Finance from July 2001 to January 2003 and Corporate Controller from October 1998 to July 2001. Ms. Dykstra is also a director of Crane Co. (NYSE: CR).

Russell Fradin joined our board and governance committee in June 2007. Since September 2006, he has been Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Hewitt Associates, Inc., a provider of multi-service HR business process outsourcing and related consulting services. From February 2004 until joining Hewitt, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of Bisys Group, Inc., a provider of outsourcing solutions to investment firms, insurance companies and banks. From 1996 until 2003, Mr. Fradin held various senior positions at Automatic Data Processing, Inc., most recently as president of its Global Employer Services Group. Prior thereto, he spent 18 years at McKinsey & Company, serving most recently as Director.

Fuchs has served as a Director of Gartner since June 1999. Fuchs joined Phillips in May 2001 where she oversees and manages Phillips' global business and financial operations. Prior to joining Phillips, she was Senior Vice President and Group Publishing Director at Hearst Magazines with primary responsibility for the organization's Women's Group of Magazines. Prior to joining Hearst in 1994, Fuchs was a Senior Executive at Cond� Nast Publications Ltd., where she served as Senior Vice President and Director, International from March 1994 to September 1994 and as Publisher of Vogue Magazine from January 1991 to March 1994. Prior to joining Cond� Nast, Fuchs held Executive and Publisher positions with a number of companies including The New York Times Company and Hachette Publications (including predecessors Diamondis Communications, Inc. and CBS Magazines).

Fuchs is presently serving on the Board of Trustees of the Whitney Museum and The Arts and Science Board of Overseers of New York University, is involved with numerous other civic and charitable organizations. Fuchs holds a Bachelor's Degree from New York University and two Honorary Doctorate Degrees.

Grabe has served as a Director of Gartner since April 1993. He has been with General Atlantic Partners, an Investment Firm, since March 1992 and he has been a General Partner of General Atlantic Partners since January 1994. Prior to that, he was a Special Partner of General Atlantic Partners beginning in April 1993. From February 1984 until March 1992, Grabe was a Corporate Officer at IBM Corporation.

Grabe is presently serving on the Board of Directors of Compuware Corporation, a Computer Systems Software Corporation; LHS Group, Inc.; TDS GmbH; MARCAM Corporation, an Enterprise Resource Planning Software Provider for Process Manufacturing Companies; and BAAN Company N.V., an Enterprise Resource Planning System Provider for Open Systems and Client-Server Environments. Grabe is also on the Board of Directors of several privately held companies in the Computer Software and Services Industry. Grabe holds a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from New York University and a Master of Business Administration Degree from the University of California at Los Angeles.

Gene Hall joined Gartner as chief executive officer in August 2004. Since then, his focus has been on publishing market-leading research, developing differentiated offerings tailored to clients' individual needs and expanding the company's sales capacity and capability. These initiatives have resulted in all-time high levels of revenue, EBITDA and contract value.

Hall came to Gartner from Automatic Data Processing (ADP), a Fortune 500 global technology and services company with over $7 billion in revenue, where he was a senior executive. As president of Employer Services, Major Accounts division, Hall headed up a $2 billion human resources and payroll services business, overseeing 8,000 associates. During his tenure, this business accelerated sales to new clients, achieved record client retention and delivered unprecedented quality scores. Concurrently, Hall led a 1,600-person software development and IT operations organization that introduced several high-growth products. Prior to this role, Hall was responsible for technology, strategy and new business development across the company.

Before joining ADP, Hall was a director and senior partner at McKinsey & Company, a leading global management consulting firm. In his 16 years there, he focused on developing business strategies for leading technology companies and organizations where technology played a central role in the business.

Hall graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and received a master's degree in business administration from Harvard Business School.

Hopper has served as a Director of Gartner since January 1994. In 1995, he founded Max D. Hopper Associates, Inc., a Consulting Firm specializing in creating benefits from the strategic use of Advanced Information Systems. Hopper is the retired Chairman of the SABRE Technology Group and served as Senior Vice President for American Airlines, both units of AMR Corporation.

Hopper is presently serving on the Board of Directors of Metrocall, Inc., Payless Cashways Inc., USDATA Corporation, Inc., Exodus Communications, Inc., United Stationers Inc., and Accrue Software, Inc. Hopper holds a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics from the University of Houston.

John R. Joyce has been a director since July 2005. Mr. Joyce is a managing director of Silver Lake Partners, a private equity firm. He joined Silver Lake Partners in July 2005. Prior joining Silver Lake, Mr. Joyce spent 30 years with IBM, serving most recently as Senior Vice President and Group Executive of the IBM Global Services (IGS) division, the world's largest information technology services and consulting provider. From 1999 to 2004, Mr. Joyce was Chief Financial Officer of IBM. Prior to that, Mr. Joyce served in a variety of roles, including: President, IBM Asia Pacific and vice president and controller for IBM�s global operations. Mr. Joyce serves as a director on the board of Avago Technologies, Gartner Inc., Hewlett Packard Company, Intelsat Ltd, Sabre Inc. and Serena Software Inc. Mr. Joyce holds an B.A. degree from Montclair State University and received an MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Mr. Joyce was nominated to the Board pursuant to an agreement with Silver Lake Partners.

Pagliuca has been a Director of Gartner since July 1990. He founded Information Partners for Bain Capital in 1989. As a Managing Director of Bain Capital, he has been involved in over thirty acquisitions of significant information and medical companies including Gartner, Dade International, Physio-Control, Wesley-Jessen and Vivra. Previously, Pagliuca was a partner at Bain & Company where he managed significant relationships in the healthcare and information services industries. Pagliuca was instrumental in acquisition, divestiture and strategy development programs for these clients. He was also involved in developing Bain's turnaround practice in which he worked with investment groups and corporate clients to rapidly improve underperforming business units. Pagliuca also worked as a Senior Accountant and Iinternational Tax Specialist for Peat Marwick Mitchell & Company in the Netherlands.

Pagliuca is presently serving on the Board of Directors of Dynamic Details, DexterUs, the Corporate Executive Board, Dade International and Wesley-Jessen. Pagliuca is a Certified Public accountant, and holds a Bachelor's Degree from Duke University and a Master of Business Administration Degree from the Harvard Business School.

Smith has been a Director at Gartner since October 2002. Prior to becoming Chairman of the Board of First Health, he led the company through nearly 20 years of record growth and financial performance as President and CEO. Smith, who joined First Health in 1984, built the company into the nation's premier full-service national health benefits company, with revenues of nearly $600 million in 2001. Under Smith's leadership, First Health has been very successful in developing and maintaining long-term relationships with large national clients, maintaining a client retention rate of 96% over the last decade.

Jeffrey W. Ubben, is a founder of ValueAct Capital. Prior to founding VAC, Ubben was a Managing Partner at BLUM Capital Partners for more than five years. During his tenure at BLUM, the actively managed assets under management grew more than five-fold, from $336 million to approximately $1.8 billion. Previously, Ubben spent eight years at Fidelity Management and Research where he managed two multi-billion-dollar mutual funds, including the Fidelity Value Fund, and served as a research analyst for a variety of industry sectors. Ubben is a director of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Inc., Gartner, Inc., Mentor Corporation, and Per-Se Technologies, Inc., and a former director of Insurance Auto Auctions, Inc., Playtex Products, Kinetic Concepts, Inc. and Smarte Carte. He has a B.A. from Duke University and an M.B.A. from the J. L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.

Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer
As executive vice president and chief financial officer (CFO), Chris Lafond is responsible for the Gartner worldwide finance, pricing, tax, treasury and investor relations teams.

Since joining the company in 1995, Lafond has held numerous positions in the finance organization including: senior vice president for worldwide finance operations and CFO for Gartner North America and Latin America; group vice president and controller; vice president and assistant controller; vice president of finance; and director of finance. Earlier in his career, he held finance positions at IBM and JP Morgan Investment Management.

Lafond graduated from the University of Connecticut and received a master's degree in finance and accounting from Columbia Business School. He is a member of the University of Florida MBA Advisory Board.

Senior Vice President, Client Services
Donna Collins is senior vice president of Client Services where she is focused on making Gartner a world-class client service organization. Her primary focus is improving client retention by ensuring that all clients are provided the best possible experience in their interactions with Gartner.

Collins joined Gartner from Automatic Data Processing (ADP) where she held a number of leadership roles during her 20-year tenure. Her most recent position there was senior vice president for service within ADP's Small Business Services segment, responsible for leading 2,500 associates in 32 service centers with the goal of providing world-class service to more than 300,000 small business clients. In this role, Collins achieved record client and associate retention rates, which directly led to the company increasing revenue by 12%.

Prior to that, Collins was division vice president of business engineering solutions for ADP's Major Accounts segment, a $2 billion business where she was responsible for developing and implementing service initiatives to increase revenue and net operating income. While in this position, she significantly improved every key metric within the service organization.

Collins is a graduate of Hofstra University and a certified public accountant.

Senior Vice President, End-User Programs
As senior vice president, End-User Programs, Ken Davis is responsible for the strategic planning, development, management and innovation of the Gartner product offerings for the technology user market segment. In this role, he leads the product development and product management functions, as well as product delivery and marketing functions for the End-User Programs business. His focus is on delivering accelerated growth in the technology user segment by delivering products for specific IT end-user constituencies.

Previously at Gartner, Davis was senior vice president, High-Tech & Telecom Programs, where he was responsible for developing and taking to market Gartner research products for high-tech companies, professional services firms and technology investors. Prior to this role, Davis was senior vice president of strategy, marketing and business development, where he developed overall corporate strategy, both domestic and international, as well as led the strategy process for each Gartner business unit. He also led the Corporate Marketing function, where he oversaw corporate branding, public relations and market intelligence.

Davis joined Gartner from McKinsey & Company, a leading management consulting firm, where he was a partner. During his 10-year career at McKinsey, Davis assisted industry-leading clients in the software and IT services industries in addressing a variety of strategic and operational issues. Davis also led McKinsey's research on the IT industry, and his insights have been published in the New York Times, the Financial Times, CIO Magazine and McKinsey Quarterly.

Davis holds a bachelor's degree in physics from Middlebury College and a Ph.D. in atomic physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Alwyn Dawkins is senior vice president, Gartner Events, the world's leading IT conference provider. He is responsible for ensuring profitable growth of the events business by delivering a client-focused experience to the 44,000 business and technology professionals who attend the company's 62 conferences and symposia held around the world each year.

Previously at Gartner, Dawkins was group vice president, Asia/Pacific sales, based in Sydney, Australia. In this role, he led the company's research and advisory services business across the Asia/Pacific region, which became the highest-performing region in sales revenue in the company. Prior to this role, Dawkins was group vice president, Gartner Events, where he held global responsibility for exhibit and sponsorship sales across the extensive portfolio of Gartner events. During this time, annual revenue from sponsorship and exhibit sales increased 100%.

Dawkins joined Gartner in 2002 after 10 years at Richmond Events, culminating in his role as executive vice president responsible for their North American business. Dawkins began his events career at Trinity Publishing and Exhibitions, which was later acquired by DMG (Daily Mail Group) World Media.

Dawkins holds a bachelor's degree in applied economics from the University of London.

Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer
In his role as senior vice president and chief information officer (CIO), Darko Hrelic leads the Strategic Technology Group in ensuring that Gartner fully leverages the capabilities of technology to deliver exceptional value to clients, and further develops its technical infrastructure to support long-term corporate growth objectives.

Hrelic joined Gartner from Automatic Data Processing (ADP) where, as vice president and chief technology officer of Employer Services, he led all aspects of the company's technical strategy, architecture and technology. He played an instrumental role in driving ADP's service-oriented architecture vision and strategy.

Prior to joining ADP, Hrelic spent 21 years at IBM, most of which were at the renowned TJ Watson Research Center, working in such areas as videotext, high-speed communications and electronic commerce. He also helped form the IBM Internet Division in the mid-1990s, where he spearheaded the technical strategy for e-commerce-or "e-business" as it is known today. In 2000, Hrelic helped found e2open.com, a consortium in the high-tech industry electronic marketplace.

Hrelic holds a master's degree in computer science from Stevens Institute of Technology.

Senior Vice President, Global Sales
As senior vice president, Global Sales, Diane Julian's primary objective is to ensure that Gartner revenue continues to grow. She is committed to providing the clear direction, tools, training and resources needed to lead a high-performance sales organization that builds and maintains valuable relationships with clients.

Julian joined Gartner in 1990 as a research analyst, transferring to sales management in 1992. During her distinguished 19 year tenure, she has held successive sales positions of increasing scope and responsibility, culminating most recently as the leader of the strategic accounts organization. Prior to this role, Julian led North America Government and Education Sales, a high performing team she founded in 1996.

Before joining Gartner, Julian spent 14 years at Xerox Corporation. She holds a bachelors degree from the University of Pittsburgh and an Executive MBA from Smith.

Senior Vice President, Human Resources
Robin Kranich, senior vice president, leads the worldwide Gartner Human Resources organization. She works in partnership with the leadership team to develop and align Gartner people strategies with business objectives. She leverages her 14 years of Gartner experience, in a variety of sales, operational and general manager roles, to establish an environment of exceptional professional development. Her aim is to ensure that Gartner is a company where the best and brightest aspire to work and where all associates can achieve their personal and professional goals.

Previously, Kranich was senior vice president, End-User Programs, responsible for the strategic planning, development, management and innovation of the Gartner product offerings for the company�s largest market segment, technology users. Under her leadership, Gartner for IT Leaders was created and subsequently became the flagship product for the Gartner Research business. In this role, she led the product development and product management functions, as well as product delivery and marketing functions for the End-User Programs business.

Prior to this role, Kranich was senior vice president, Gartner Executive Programs. During this time, she sustained an aggressive growth rate of 25% a year, growing membership to 3,100 CIOs worldwide. Earlier in her career at Gartner, she served as vice president and chief of staff to the president, successfully directed the launch of the company's inside sales channel and led sales operations for all sales channels in North America.

Prior to joining Gartner in 1994, Kranich worked in the technology group at Marriott International.

Kranich holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from American University.

Senior Vice President, Executive Programs
Dale Kutnick is senior vice president of Gartner Executive Programs where he is focused on expanding the IT executive segment of the company's business by ensuring the delivery of indispensable research and advisory services to the membership base. Prior to his current position, Kutnick was senior vice president and director of research, where he focused on quality control of research deliverables, developing new forms of content and client interaction, and improving client support. He also led the Corporate Marketing & Communications group.

Kutnick joined Gartner in 2005 following the company's acquisition of META Group where he was co-founder, chairman of the board and research director. He also served as president, CEO and research director of META Group from its inception in 1989 through 2002. In addition to his operational duties as CEO, Kutnick led the creation, development, packaging and management of content quality for the company's intellectual capital. He was also a frequent keynote speaker at industry conferences, a contributor to many books and other publications and a consultant to numerous IT industry CEOs and CIOs. During Kutnick's tenure as CEO, META Group had a successful initial public offering in December 1995, quadrupled revenue and was profitable for 19 consecutive quarters.

Before co-founding META Group, Kutnick was executive vice president of research at Gartner and an executive vice president at Gartner Securities. Prior to joining Gartner, he was executive director and research director at Yankee Group, a technology research and consulting firm, and a principal at Battery Ventures, a venture capital firm.

A graduate of Yale University, Kutnick is a member of the board of directors of First Albany Corp.

Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary
Lew Schwartz joined Gartner in 2001 as senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary. He leads the Gartner Law & Compliance group, serving as chief compliance officer and chief governance officer.

Prior to joining Gartner, Schwartz was a partner with Shipman & Goodwin in the litigation and employment law departments, chairing the firm's employment litigation practice group. Before joining Shipman & Goodwin, Schwartz was a litigation partner in the Stamford office of Schatz & Schatz, Ribicoff & Kotkin; an associate in the New York City office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom; and an assistant district attorney in New York County (Manhattan).

Schwartz received a bachelor's degree at Yale University and holds a law degree from Cornell Law School.

Senior Vice President, Gartner Research
Peter Sondergaard, senior vice president, Gartner Research, is responsible for the management and direction of worldwide research. He leads a team of 650 analysts, ensuring that the Research organization's priorities align directly with those of clients.

Sondergaard is a distinguished analyst and a highly respected research leader with years of experience in senior positions within Gartner Research. Prior to his current role, Sondergaard was head of research for the technology and services sector. His previous roles include hardware and systems sector vice president and general manager for Gartner Research EMEA, responsible for research integrity, integration and methodology. Sondergaard started at Gartner as a program director for the company's personal computing research area, specializing in the desktop computing issues of European users.

Prior to joining Gartner, Sondergaard was research director at IDC in Europe, where he concentrated his efforts on PC analysis and consulting projects for large European users and technology providers. He also worked for Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) where he was responsible for the integration of PCs between hotels and SAS data. He has contributed to various European trade and business publications.

Sondergaard holds a master's degree in economics from the University of Copenhagen.

Senior Vice President, Gartner Consulting
Per Anders Waern leads Gartner Consulting, which employs 500 consultants worldwide. He provides strategic advice to CIOs and other C-level executives, and contributes to consulting engagements focused on the management of IT, IT strategy, benchmarking and performance optimization, and strategic sourcing.

Waern has extensive experience leading business growth and performance optimization in international markets. Prior to his current position, he held several senior leadership roles within Gartner Consulting, most recently leading the global Core Consulting organization with operations in North America, EMEA and Japan. Previously, Waern was responsible for consulting and measurement operations in Scandinavia, Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and also served as country leader for Germany.

Before joining Gartner, Waern was head of corporate IT strategy at a $4 billon energy company. In this position, he initiated and led corporatewide IT initiatives, including application portfolio changes (ERP) and improving communications infrastructure.

Prior to this role, Waern held the position of managing director at a data service company that offered a wide range of consulting, information system development and IT operational services. There, he led the integration of multiple IT organizations into one operational IT company, which resulted in significant cost savings.

During his 20 years of industry experience, Waern has also held management positions in marketing, business development and operations.

Waern earned his executive master of business administration from Stockholm School of Economics. He also studied economics and information technology at Stockholm University, and technology management at Harvard Business School.

Senior Vice President, High-Tech & Telecom Programs
As senior vice president, High Tech & Telecom Programs, Michael Yoo is responsible for developing and taking to market Gartner research products for high-tech companies, professional services firms and technology investors. In this role, he leads the established Gartner Dataquest and Gartner Invest product lines, in addition to the rapidly growing Gartner for Business Leaders product suite. He also focuses on creating offerings designed to meet the unique needs of specific user groups within high-tech organizations.

Previously at Gartner, Yoo played a lead role in developing and launching new role-based products for both technology providers and CIOs. He joined Gartner in 2006 as the head of product development for the High-Tech & Telecom Programs team. During this time, he successfully developed a range of compelling new offerings. In 2007, he oversaw the launch of the first suite of products aimed at specific CIO roles within Gartner Executive Programs.

Prior to joining Gartner, Yoo spent four years as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company, a leading management consultancy, serving clients in the high-tech industry. He spent the first 10 years of his career as a research physicist, leading nanotechnology research and development efforts at IBM Research, Philips Research and Bell Laboratories.

Yoo holds a bachelor's degree in chemistry and physics from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
