Gartner Infrastructure, Operations & Data Centre Summit

WHAT?

Gartner is pleased to announce that the Infrastructure and Operations Data Centre (IODC) Summit 2010 will feature the Gartner Green Data Centre Excellence Award.

The Gartner Green Data Centre Award is dedicated to promoting excellence in Green IT principles within the Data Centre. Gartner infrastructure and operations analysts will evaluate, recognise and reward the most successful recent Green IT implementations by end-user organisations.

WHO?

All organisations in the Asia Pacific region who have demonstrated excellence in using green IT in their data centre are eligible and encouraged to apply including:

• Gartner clients or non-clients
• Large Enterprises, and Small to Midsize businesses
• Private sector, Government and non-profit
• All vertical industries
• Organisations based in the Asia Pacific region

Vendors or service providers are not eligible; however they are encouraged to assist their customers in submitting an application.

HOW ARE THE FINALISTS SELECTED?

The selection is designed around deployments of Green Data Centre IT solutions. Criteria used in evaluating the Green Data Centre Excellence Award candidates includes components outlines in the Gartner research note titled Green Data Centers: The Six Key Attributes of Data Center Energy Efficiency Metrics comprising:

• Accounting for systemic losses in data center components
• Linking the facilities, IT and building components
• Measuring the effect of IT workloads on energy use
• Accounting for the maturity of operational processes
• Consistency, integrity and vendor neutrality
• Effect of climate conditions

Selection process for Green Data Centre Excellence Awards:

Finalists for the "Green Data Centre Excellence Award" will be selected based on how well the organisation demonstrated excellence in the use of a Green Data Centre initiative.

All entries will be evaluated on:

• The ability to demonstrate excellence in implementation and alignment of the various levels/components of a Green Data Centre Framework
• Execution and support for using Green Data Centre applications and strategies to deliver significant business benefits/goal realisation

3 Finalists will be selected from the submitted applications. Each finalist will be asked to present their Green Data Centre use case to conference delegates at the Infrastructure and Operations Data Centre Summit taking place 24 – 25 March 2010 in Sydney, and Summit attendees will vote to select a winner from these finalists. The winner will be announced at the conference.
