Peter Keen is the founder and Chairman of the International Center for Information Technologies and Visiting Professor at Fordham University. He has served on the faculties of Harvard, MIT and Stanford Universities, with visiting positions at Wharton, the London Business School and Oxford University.
His recent books include: "Networks in Action: Business Choices and Technology Decisions", "Shaping the Future: Business Design through Information Technology," "Every Manager's Guide to Information Technology," "Competing in Time: Using Telecommunications for Competitive Advantage." He is also the co-author of "Decision Support Systems: An Organizational Perspective" and "Transforming the IS Organization" and "Business Process Investment" and "Every Managers Guide to Business Processes". His books have been translated into German, Japanese, Chinese, and Spanish.
He has published several hundreds articles in business and scholarly journals, including Harvard Business Review, Sloan Management Review, CIO, MIS Quarterly, Barrons, Management Science, The Communications of the ACM and The IBM Systems Journal. He was the founder and managing editor of Office, Technology and People and is on the editorial advisory board of a number of journals. He was cofounder of several leading conferences including the annual International Conference of Information Systems and annual Decision Support Systems conference.
He received his undergraduate degree in English Literature from Oxford University, and his masters and doctorate from the Harvard Graduate School of Business. He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Science by Marist University in 1991. He was named by Information Week as one of the top ten consultants in the IT field. He is the advisor to top managers in companies and government agencies in Europe, the United States, Africa, Canada, and Latin America.
A Fordham University, Peter created the first fully-accredited MBA in the United States customized to a single company and taught on its premises (MCI Communications). He has developed and taught a wide range of customized top management education programs focused on education for action rather than awareness. These include videoconferenced education, delivered by satellite in the U.S., Europe and Asia.
Peter founded The International Center for Information Technologies in 1986. ICIT's goal is to provide senior executives with reliable, creative and practical information, education and advice on the effective use of information technologies as a resource, and on the management processes to ensure that relevant business, economic, organizational and technical planning are fused instead of compartmentalized. ICIT has three main areas of activity: research, education, and advising. As chairman of ICIT, Peter has led its research and publishing. Programs have included Building the IS Organization of Tomorrow, Measuring the Business Value of IT, Redesigning the Organization, and How Cities Compete through IT.
