Malcolm Gladwell has been a staff writer with The New Yorker magazine since 1996. His 1999 profile of Ron Popeil won a National Magazine Award, and in 2005 he was named one of Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People. He is the author of two books, "The Tipping Point: How Little Things Make a Big Difference," (2000) and "Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking" (2005), both of which were number one New York Times bestsellers.
From 1987 to 1996, he was a reporter with the Washington Post, where he covered business, science, and then served as the newspaper's New York City bureau chief. He graduated from the University of Toronto, Trinity College, with a degree in history. He was born in England, grew up in rural Ontario, and now lives in New York City.

Joseph T. McCartin is a senior vice president and Chief Information Officer (CIO) for National City Corporation. In this role, he is responsible for leading the company’s Information Services organization, establishing IT strategy, and developing new technology-enabled business capabilities for the corporation.
Mr. McCartin joined National City in 2003.
Prior to his career with National City, Mr. McCartin specialized in IT transformation as a member of the Feld Group, a premier technology leadership consulting firm. His engagements included Home Depot, FedEx, and EDS.
From 1998-2002, Mr. McCartin was the CIO at Fleet Mortgage Group in Columbia, South Carolina, where he also founded and served as president of Celeris Financial Services, an e-commerce division. Before joining Fleet, Mr. McCartin served as CIO for GE Capital Mortgage Services in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, and from 1993-1997, he was CIO of Banc One Mortgage in Indianapolis.
Prior to his career in financial services, Mr. McCartin served eight years as an officer in the United States Air Force designing and managing command center technology in both Europe and the U.S.
Mr. McCartin holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, a master’s degree in systems technology from the Naval Postgraduate School and a master’s in business administration from the University of Notre Dame. He is currently a board member of the Greater Cleveland YMCA, and a member of Leadership Cleveland’s class of 2008.

Mike Onders joined National City in September of 2005 and is Senior Vice President of the Channel Portfolio for Information Systems and is the Business Information Officer for Consumer and Small Business. National City is the 8th largest U.S. bank with $140 billion in assets and operates in 7 states with 1200 branches. In this role, Mike operates as the primary Information Systems relationship manager for the Consumer and Small Business lines of business. As the Channel Portfolio manager, Mike oversees the overall project management, development, and support of the applications for the branches, call centers, internet, and ATM platforms for National City.
Prior to joining National City, Mike was Vice President of Global Software Development covering branch technology, originations, and internet technology for GE Consumer Finance, a global financial services company in 42 countries with $127B in assets, $16B in revenue, and $2.5B in net income.
Mike's other career highlights include:
- 5 years with OfficeMax as Vice President of CRM, Business Intelligence, and Direct Technology.
- CIO/CTO of GE Capital's Consumer Financial Services division - a corporate and consumer credit card company
- 5 years with KeyBank as Chief Technology Architect and manager of Architecture Services
- IS Consulting Manager with Ernst & Young
- And, Senior Development Analyst in the aerospace industry for Hughes Aircraft Company.
Mike earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Systems Analysis from Miami University of Ohio and he earned a Masters Degree in Computer Science from Ohio State University, specializing in artificial intelligence.
