Overview

Building the "Business" in BI: Plan, Platform, People, Performance

The world has changed. Regardless of the impact of the recent economic downturn on your organization, there is a general consensus that the business and economic landscape will not return to the pre-crisis state - but will eventually stabilize into something different. New business patterns will emerge; new ways of doing business will be exploited by early adopters to gain competitive advantage.

Business Intelligence and Performance Management will play a significant role in helping your organization identify and understand the potential impact of these new patterns, providing the vital insight that business leaders will find invaluable. New ways of using BI, coupled with the increasing sophistication of analytic applications and the emergence of mash-ups, offer huge potential for IT to help build the business in this new world.

However, while BI offers significant potential in supporting the business, obstacles still abound: unengaged business sponsors; lack of business user involvement; fragmented information silos; BI toll proliferation; poor data integrity coupled with poor quality and inconsistency; skills gap; low adoption rates amongst business users.

With nearly half of organizations anticipating that BI budgets will increase in the next 12 months, it is vital that investments are deployed that build the use of BI and Performance Management in the business.

The Gartner Business Intelligence Summit will also provide you with the governance frameworks to ensure that BI and Performance Management become pervasive across the business. It will also show you how to leverage BI and Performance Management approaches and technologies to enable business users to capitalize on new and changing business patterns.

EMEA BI Trends - More Users, More Data and More Spending

James Richardson, Gartner
Michael Corcoran, Information Builders
Anthony Deighton, QlikView
Dave Berry, CIO, Coty Inc.
Vijay JagJiven, Billing Team Leader IT, Manpower.

Some people think that now the big software players - SAP, Oracle, Microsoft and IBM - own the lion's share of the BI market, there's little room for change. They are wrong. In 2009 we saw yet more development and the BI platform market continued to evolve. This short session will highlight developing and emerging trends, competitive dynamics and current challenges within the European marketplace. It will consider the impact of changes in the vendor landscape, and the implications for organizations making investments in BI.
