Gartner BI Excellence Award
Finalists Selected!
18 January 2008 - Following a rigourous evaluation process a group of Gartner analysts have now selected three organisations from amongst dozens of high-quality applicants participating in the BI Excellence Award competition. The three finalists are:
- Jane Holmes, Group Systems Manager, Group Reporting Services, AstraZeneca
- Ton van den Dungen, Manager, BI Center of Excellence, ENECO Energie
- Patrik Schinzel, Chief Controller, Folksam Insurance Group
We look forward to their presentations in the morning of Day 2 of the BI Summit. The event's audience will then vote on their favourite candidate in a secret ballot. The Award winner will be announced at the end of Day 2.
WHAT?
Now in its 4th year, the Gartner Business Intelligence Excellence Award is dedicated to promoting excellence in Business Intelligence and Performance Management. Gartner BI analysts will evaluate, recognize and reward the most successful recent BI implementations by end-user organizations.
The award, launched in North America in 2005 and alternating with Europe each year, will be awarded to one of three finalists presenting their cases live at the Gartner Business Intelligence Summit on 6 February 2008 in Amsterdam.
WHO?
All EMEA-based organizations who have demonstrated excellence in using BI are eligible and encouraged to apply including:- Gartner clients or non-clients
- Large Enterprises, and Small to Midsize businesses
- Private sector, Government and non-profit
- All vertical industries
- Organizations based in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region
- All business models: business-B2B, B2C, B2B2C...
Although vendors or service providers are not eligible, they are allowed to assist their customers in submitting an application.

How Are the Winners Selected?
Finalists will be selected by a team of Gartner analysts, and industry experts.
The selection is designed around deployments of Business Intelligence and Performance Management solutions. Criteria used in evaluating BI Excellence Award candidates includes components outlined in the Gartner research note titled Business Intelligence and Performance Management Framework comprising:
The Business Strategy Layer
The Performance Management Layer
The People and Processes Layer
Analytic Applications Layer
BI Platform Layer
Information Management Infrastructure Layer
Selection Process for the BI Excellence Award:
Finalists for the "BI Excellence Award" will be selected based on how well the organization demonstrated excellence in the use of an enterprise-wide BI/PM initiative.
All entries will be evaluated on:- The ability to demonstrate excellence in implementation and alignment of the various levels/components of the BI and PM Framework
- Execution and support for using BI/PM applications and strategies to deliver significant business benefits/goal realization
3 Finalists will be selected from the submitted applications and announced on January 10th. Each finalist will be asked to present their BI/PM use case to conference delegates at the BI Summit 2008 taking place Feb 5 – Feb 7 in Amsterdam (more details at at www.europe.gartner.com/bi). There, Gartner will allow conference participants to provide their feedback as to which of the finalists is the best example of BI excellence. From this feedback the winner will be selected. The winner will be announced at the conference.
