STAMFORD, CONN., January 14, 2005 — Gartner, Inc. (NYSE: IT and ITB), the world's leading technology research and advisory firm, today announced the hiring of David McClure as research director in Gartner's Global Public Sector research group.

Mr. McClure joins Gartner after serving as vice president for eGovernment and Technology with the Council for Excellence in Government, and director for Information Technology Management Issues at the U.S. General Accounting Office. He has been directly involved in both the policy and pragmatic implementation sides of information management and technology in government.

"Dave's strong breadth of understanding technology and related government management issues will provide immediate value to government clients and vendors to cope with the issues confronting them," said John Kost, managing vice president for Gartner's Global Public Sector research group. "Crucial to our government clients is the role of Congress and senior political leadership in IT projects. Dave has the unique ability to not only speak coherently to technology customers, but he can also explain technology to political leaders."

"I look forward to broadening my longstanding interest and expertise in IT management best practices research and e-government implementation," Mr. McClure said. "With a focus on government processes, I'll provide actionable advice on complex IT management issues affecting government CIOs and their organizations."

Mr. McClure will be based in McLean, Virginia

Gartner's Global Public Sector research practice is the largest in the industry, providing in-depth research and advisory services to help public sector clients address the unique challenges faced by government. The entire team of analysts has held senior positions in the public sector, and Mr. McClure provides additional depth in management processes used by government agencies.
