| JWT, Iowa Department of Administrative Services and the FAA Aircraft Evaluation Group Honored at Gartner Portals, Content & Collaboration Summit |
LAS VEGAS, Nev., April 4, 2006 — Gartner, Inc. today announced the winners of its first annual High-Performance Workplace (HPW) Excellence Awards. The awards were given to JWT, the Iowa Department of Administrative Services, and the Federal Aviation Administration Aircraft Evaluation Group (FAA AEG) in the categories of Business Innovation, Culture Change and Narrow, Fast and High Impact, respectively.
The awards, which honor end-user organizations that exhibit excellence in enhancing workplace performance, were presented during the inaugural Gartner Portals, Content and Collaboration Summit, being held this week in Las Vegas.
“JWT, the Iowa Department of Administrative Services and the FAA AEG all recognized the power and potential of the high-performance workplace and each organization demonstrated a well-planned, well-executed approach, which improved organizational productivity and raised employee impact,” said Tom Austin, group vice president, Gartner Fellow and Summit conference chair.
JWT received the Business Innovation Award which recognizes the smartest workplace investments (organizational, physical, technical, operational, and others) that resulted in people creating new competitive advantages for their enterprise.
“Our high-performance workspaces have evolved over the past five years to be a single source of truth for contextual information access and collaboration,” said John Tripp, director, Systems Development for JWT Detroit. “Our workspaces have allowed JWT offices in which they are deployed to standardize operations and provide data more transparently, and have resulted in our having the capacity to respond to the rapidly changing business environment in ways that, for us, previously were not possible.”
The Iowa Department of Administrative Services was honored with the Culture Change Award for effecting significant culture change using, in their case, technology that dramatically improved their business.
“We are absolutely honored to receive this award from Gartner. This significant award has validated the hard work our team has put in place to bring about an entirely new concept to state government - operating our ‘business’ as an entrepreneurial model, a customer-focused approach to delivering services in a competitive marketplace,” said Patricia Harmeyer, executive officer III at the Iowa Department of Administrative Services.
The FAA AEG received the Narrow, Fast and High-Impact Award for a project that combined great linkage to specific, board-level strategic initiatives, narrowly defined user groups, clearly defined, specific objectives and a quickly achieved, high return on investment.
“We are honored to receive this award. Winning will create greater awareness of flight standards in our organization and if people aren't already using our Knowledge Management sites, they will start,” said Lynn Pierce, aviation safety inspector airworthiness specialist, FAA, Seattle Aircraft Evaluation Group. “These sites have unlimited potential and will continue to save time and money within our organization.”
Some of the key criteria used in evaluating HPW Excellence Award candidates included clarity of initial objectives and metrics, innovation, cultural sensitivity and focus, inclusiveness, synergy and generality.
The Gartner Portals, Content & Collaboration Summit is designed to explain the technologies and best practices required for innovative work to happen. This three-day forum looks at workplace technologies such as portals, content management, communications tools, office suites, VoIP, collaboration support technologies and mobile devices.
