STAMFORD, CONN., September 17, 2003 — Gartner, Inc. (NYSE: IT and ITB) announced the winners of the company's two CRM Excellence Awards. City of Baltimore was selected in the large-enterprise category and GSI Commerce was selected in the small-to-midsize-enterprise category.

During Gartner's CRM Summit 2003, which was held September 8 to 10, six finalists out of 156 entrants presented their case studies to attendees who participated in selecting the winner of this year's awards. The award is given to an enterprise in each of two categories that demonstrates excellence in CRM initiatives and illustrates a specific end-user implementation and benefits of CRM.

"The two winning enterprises demonstrated that CRM is much more than a technology issue. They succeeded in addressing the more challenging aspects of CRM, which are the business processes, the valued customer experience and organizational collaboration," said Walter Janowski, research director for Gartner. "Also, before embarking on their CRM initiatives, each finalist developed an internal business case and projected benefits. They showed that they are able to identify and measure real results at this stage of their CRM journey."

This annual award, in its fifth edition, recognizes outstanding CRM initiatives from end-user enterprises from all over the world. The criteria used in evaluating CRM Excellence Award candidates included components outlined in the Gartner Research Note titled, "The Eight Building Blocks of CRM." In addition to a CRM Excellence Awards Trophy, each winner receives two complimentary passes to the Gartner CRM event of its choice in 2004.
