Gartner to Acquire AMR Research

I recently shared the exciting news that Gartner, Inc. has reached an agreement to acquire AMR Research, the world's foremost authority on global supply chain and its supporting technologies. We expect the transaction, which is subject to customary closing conditions, to be completed this month.

Gartner and AMR Research will operate separately in 'business as usual' mode until the end of the year. I'd like to answer several questions we've received about what will happen after January 1 as AMR Research is integrated into Gartner.

Q. How will this acquisition benefit Gartner clients?
A. The addition of AMR's research, consulting and events portfolio to Gartner's suite of market-leading products and services will enhance the depth and breadth of advice our clients can choose to receive.

Q. How will this acquisition impact AMR Research clients?
A. Current AMR Research clients should experience no change to the high quality of products and services they currently receive. AMR Research products and services will continue to be sold, delivered and supported by the same great team of highly talented employees.

Q. How will current AMR Research contracts and contract renewals be effected?
A. Gartner will honor all existing client contracts.

Q. Will Gartner retain AMR Research's employees?
A. Gartner extended offers of employment to every AMR Research analyst, consultant, client service representative, product support and sales person on December 1st. This represents almost 90% of AMR Research employees. Based on the letters of acceptance we have already received, we expect to retain nearly 100% of these employees.

Q. What will happen to AMR Research products and services?
A. We will continue to invest in the development of AMR Research's world-class products and services and market them to a larger audience worldwide. In addition, AMR Research's events will continue as scheduled.

Q. Will the AMR research agenda change?
A. AMR research is almost entirely complementary to current Gartner research, so we anticipate little change to research agendas for 2010. Any overlap in coverage area will be reviewed in the integration process during Q1 2010.
