Welcome

For most of us, there’s nothing new with the concept of case management. For decades, a wide range of professionals, from attorneys to social workers, have used the concept of a case file to manage relationships and make better, more informed, decisions.

But times have changed. With the development of content- and business process management technologies, case management has taken on a broader, more dynamic meaning across a wider range of industries.

By helping businesses overcome inefficient manual processes, provide more rewarding levels of customer service, and respond with confidence to regulatory requirements, today’s case management applications are an invaluable asset for businesses large and small.   Read More

  • Case Management Is a Challenging BPMS Use Case
  • Marc Kerremans
  • 8 December 2008
  • Most business process management suite (BPMS) products do not support a case management workload well and lack the requisite capabilities to coordinate this more-complex use case. Enterprises need to understand the interplay between case management representation and BPMS products.

Key Findings

  • In collaborative environments, where knowledge workers work together on a process deliverable, the case management representation is the predominant process representation.
  • Case management departs from the traditional view of structured and sequential predefined processes. Instead, workflows are nondeterministic, meaning they have one or more points where different continuations are possible. They are driven more by human decision making and content status than other factors.
  • The case management representation cannot be supported by traditional workflow tools. Many BPMS tools only provide basic capabilities to support this case management representation.
  • Many of the processes that we consider to be strictly sequential are a combination of structured processes and the case representation.

  • The problem with traditional BPM is that many processes require human intervention when decisions cannot be modeled by a rules engine. Find out how case management is critical to expanding the use of BPM into more strategic and knowledge-driven processes.
