Why we call SaaS "flat rate"?

Since early XXI century, the concept the "flat rate" has been well established in the Spanish market by telecommunications and cable or digital TV. It also describes precisely what Quota offers to the users: software, services, training and support, all included in a monthly fee.

There are two reasons why, from the outset, we decided to refer to our distribution model as flat rate:

  1. One reason was that when we started up the company in 2005, the Spanish market wasn't used to the term SaaS, and even nowadays the abbreviation SaaS is known by IT professionals but not among end users.
  2. Secondly, flat rate is quite close to the concept of a fixed monthly payment with all the services a user needs. This term was already well established in the Spanish market by the telecommunications companies and pay per view channels.

On the other hand, Quota keeps in mind the Spanish market level of maturity by adapting offerings and terminologies to the customer's reality:

  • The need to understand the new business model (closer terminology)
  • The need for a tangible service (on-premise)
  • The need to make specific adaptations (which Quota can do being a software factory).

In light of this fact and, looking ahead to the SaaS model, Quota includes in its offer a mixed model, in order not to lose local opportunities.

The mixed model was designed with the best of each model, from SaaS pay by use and from on–premise customization and installation on the customer's server.
