Gartner IT Infrastructure Operations & Data Center Summit

Responsible for Information Technology Service Delivery, including the Information Management and the GIS Environment’s within ARTC. Providing a responsive and reliable IT environment that consistently delivers results by aligning technology initiatives with business goals, with continuous improvement to service delivery, standardisation, and business/system performance. Chairman of the Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) Committee, providing the Executive with oversight and direction of ARTC’s ICT programs including technology related innovation investments. Providing governance that will ensure the projects are prioritised in accordance with and are consistent with ARTC’s business strategy, corporate vision and goals. One of Steve’s significant achievements as Technology and Infrastructure Manager is the consolidation of ARTC’s server environment into two main data centres. The deployment of leading edge energy efficient infrastructure and virtualisation technologies he has provided ARTC with greater scalability, reliability and flexibility, whilst keeping overall cost to a minimum. Moving to the new environment has also generated a number of case studies in the market, with other industries following ARTC’s design.

Matthew Boon is a managing vice president and group team manager in Gartner Research, with global responsibility for the Technology & Service Provider Research group's Data Center team. Focusing on servers, networking, communications, storage, imaging and print services, and data center transformation the Data Center team covers trends and analysis of the marketplace with respect to data center technologies and issues. Mr. Boon's team of analysts spans the globe, reporting and advising on data center technology and market trends, publishing research, and advising clients on strategic and tactical advantages related to trends in global data center and related markets. Mr. Boon is based in the Gartner office in Sydney, Australia. In addition, Mr. Boon spends time researching and delivering advice and content on data center technology and deployment trends, particularly across the Asia/Pacific region. He is a frequent speaker at Gartner and industry events and is often sought for comment by the IT press on data center technology and market trends.

Michele Caminos is a managing vice president with Gartner Technology and Service Provider research, managing the global team of Imaging and Print Services and Security Services. Previous to this role, Ms. Caminos was a research vice president covering data center transformation. Ms. Caminos has also covered the SMB and channels research area, as well as IT services, within Gartner in the U.S. and Asia/Pacific. Key research areas include vendor strategies, go-to-market strategies and user demands. Ms. Caminos is a regular presenter at local and international IT events and contributes regularly to Australasian and Asia/Pacific computing journals and publications. She resides in Auckland, New Zealand.

Debra Curtis is a research vice president in the Gartner IT Operations Management group. She is responsible for the research core topics of network management, event management, business service management, IT service portfolio management and IT service catalogs. She focuses on best practices for IT operations management, improving IT management process maturity and end-to-end IT service management.

Leslie Fiering is a vice president covering mobile computing in Gartner Research, where she is part of the Client Platforms group and lead analyst on notebook computing. Her areas of expertise include notebook hardware and emerging mobile form factors such as iPads; employee-owned PC and notebook strategies (BYOPC); PC hardware acquisition and contract negotiation; telework; TCO; market strategies; and market messaging.

Clive Gold is a longstanding employee at EMC, having been with the company since 1999, working in roles such as Regional Product Marketing Manager. He is currently the Marketing CTO, where he is responsible for EMC’s strategic product marketing activities and plays a critical role in advising on the overall direction of EMC. Gold has over 25 years experience in the IT industry and is currently the Vice Chairman of the Storage Networking Industry Association – SNIA-ANZ. Having commenced his career with Hewlett-Packard, he subsequently held a variety of senior positions in sales, marketing and services with companies including ComTech and Pyramid Technology. Gold holds a Masters degree in Business Administration as well as a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.

Milind Govekar is a managing vice president with Gartner Research. In addition to managing a small global team, his focus is on cloud management platforms, IT financial management technology, workload automation, application management, performance and capacity management, and IT service management. He is often invited to be a keynote speaker at events globally, is a research conference chair for Gartner I&O events, and frequently advises executives in large and small enterprises, investors, and vendors.

Matt is responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient operations within the Hitachi Data Systems Pre-sales and Solutions teams across Victoria, Western Australia, South Australia and Tasmania, which is responsible for designing world class storage systems that meet a customer’s business needs. The team also engages as the technical champions in the sales cycle and performs detailed architectural design of the proposed solution. Matt has been consulting to business and technology leaders on infrastructure best practice for over 15 years and hold an MBA from Melbourne Business School.

Andrew Kirker is the Sales Director for Schneider Electric IT. The focus of Andrew’s role is to address customers’ key business drivers such as increasing energy efficiencies and decreasing costs in data centre operations. Andrew has over 15 years experience in senior sales and engineering roles across Australia and New Zealand, 10 of them at APC. Andrew’s most recent role was country manager for APC in New Zealand and South Pacific where over six years he significantly grew the business and turned APC into a market leader in power and cooling for data centres.

Rakesh Kumar is a vice president in Gartner Research, where he specializes in enterprise infrastructure and operations strategies. With more than 23 years of international experience, Mr. Kumar is a recognized leader in data center architectures, infrastructure, high availability and operational processes. Mr. Kumar is also leading the research in data center power and cooling issues and is an established international authority in environmental and "green" IT strategies. He has worked with the European Union and various governments around the world on energy-related technology issues. Mr. Kumar has spent considerable time in India working with many companies and government departments. He is one of the world's foremost experts on the development of core IT infrastructure in India.

Kris Kumar came to Digital Realty with 28 years of experience in IT/data center infrastructure. Immediately prior to joining the Company, Mr. Kumar was the president and co-founder of a specialized consulting and project implementation business delivered facilities and move-in ready data center projects for major corporate enterprises and international telecom and IT companies across the Asia-Pacific region. Mr. Kumar also served as a Marine Engineer in the Indian, British and American Merchant Navy for 10 years. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering (Distinction) and a Postgraduate degree in Facilities Management & Finance from Sydney University.

Naveen Mishra is a principal analyst with Gartner's global Data Center Convergence Team. Mr. Mishra primarily focuses on analyzing the data center technologies for the Asia/Pacific region. Being an infrastructure analyst, he is often consulted by CIOs and IT managers on a variety of technology issues, such as infrastructure maturity assessment, virtualization, data center consolidation, green IT and server strategy. IT vendors also seek his advice for validating their growth strategies for Asia/Pacific. Mr. Mishra is often quoted in the Indian business and IT media on broad data center trends and adoption.

Mr. Nahnsen has over 15 years practical experience in technology, data centre planning, consulting, design, implementation, consolidation/migration and program management. He is currently the Asia Pacific and Japan Critical Facility Senior Consultant for the HP Critical Facility Services team. He works with customers across Asia, providing guidance and recommendations at different stages of their facilities strategic initiatives. He consults for HP in Australia and APJ as a trusted advisor for next generation energy efficient data centres and Green IT initiatives for Asia Pacific markets and supports sales activities for Critical Facilities Services and HP POD products in Australia (South Pacific).

Lawrence Pingree's responsibilities include coverage of security technologies, security program management, network security technologies and cloud related security issues. The emphasis of his research documents is on providing insight to vendors rather than end customers on security market trends, security technology adoption and the competitive differentiators as well as the competitive strategies of security technology and service providers.

As General Manager Enterprise Engineering for Suncorp, Terry Powell is responsible for BT (Business Technology) service delivery of all technology assets across the Suncorp group, including Server and Storage Engineering, Data Centre Management, Networking and Client Technologies. Terry joined Suncorp in 2006. Terry has over 15 years of IT leadership and Project Management experience in a variety of industries. Before joining Suncorp, he held senior IT positions at Westpac and TD Bank, along with numerous consulting roles within government, manufacturing and retail sectors. Terry holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of New South Wales and a Bachelor of Business from the University of Queensland.

Errol Rasit is a research director for Gartner, part of the Data Center Infrastructure and Management team. He contributes to the development of worldwide data center research, specializing in systems hardware, infrastructure convergence, cloud computing and virtualization.

Bernard Salt is a Partner of KPMG Australia based in Melbourne. Bernard holds Bachelor of Education and Master of Arts degrees and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Bernard has established an enviable reputation as an advisor to leading property investors and developers on matters relating to market demand. Bernard's client list reads like a Who's Who of Australian business. Bernard is however best known to Australian business for his commentary in the media on the business implications of demographic and social change. He is a columnist with The Australian and Wish magazine, and is the author of the popular best-selling book 'The Big Shift: Welcome to the Third Australian Culture'; his 2006 release 'The Big Picture' and newly released in 2008 'Man Drought and Other Social Issues of the New Century'. A look at the supply of single men and women in different parts of Australia. It also considers social change in the workplace as well as generational and consumer trends. Bernard has appeared on television programs such as A Current Affair, Business Sunday, The Today Show, SBS Insight, Today Tonight and 60 Minutes.

Phil Sargeant is research vice president for the Data Center, Technology & Service Provider Research. His primary research specialty is data center storage hardware, with the secondary focus being data center server hardware. Mr. Sargeant monitors and comments on the major storage hardware technologies and major storage vendors. He also monitors the major server vendors, server technologies and major operating platforms including z/OS, Solaris, HP-UX, AIX, Linux and Microsoft Windows. Mr. Sargeant spends a good deal of time liaising with vendors and end users, providing advice and guidance about the storage market, including storage consolidation, virtualization and the technologies associated with real-time infrastructure.

Joe Skorupa is a VP distinguished analyst in Gartner Research, where he is part of the Data Center Convergence Research unit. His research focuses on two areas: - Advanced data network architectures focusing on converged infrastructures, including the convergence of servers, network, storage, and the software to configure and manage them (fabric-based infrastructure), as well as network virtualization/SDN/OpenFlow and FCoE/DCB - Maximizing application performance via advanced networking technologies, including application delivery controllers (Layer 4-7 switching), Web front-end optimization and WAN optimization In 2011, Mr. Skorupa led a team of 15 Gartner analysts who developed breakthrough scenario-planning-based research on the future of the data center market from 2016 through 2021. This technology-and-service-provider-focused research is being developed into a set of CIO target research to be delivered in 2012. He also covers I/O virtualization and emerging data center architectures, such as cloud computing and fabric-based computers, as well as delivery of rich media, including video within the enterprise. In addition, he advises vendors on product, market and partnership strategies and mergers/acquisitions.
