Summit Tracks
Cloud Infrastructure
Application solutions in the cloud must be built on a solid technological foundation. This foundation is built on a set of rapidly evolving systems infrastructure (IaaS) and application infrastructure (PaaS) layers. In this track we examine the technological upheaval and vendor battleground in these layers, and provide best user adoption practices for IaaS and PaaS. Key Issues: -What are the market-leading innovations in platform technology for cloud computing? -How will mainstream organizations manage a hybrid on-premises/on-cloud IT environment? -Will the established enterprise software vendors (IBM, Oracle, SAP, Microsoft) have an advantage in building an enterprise-worthy cloud infrastructure platform or will new cloud-native providers emerge to lead the IT organizations to cloud computing?
Sessions
Cloud Infrastructure Platform Scenario
29 November, 2011 (10:15 AM - 11:00 AM)
Cloud computing outcomes rely on the underlying cloud infrastructure platform. IaaS, PaaS and programmable SaaS – all form the foundation of the Platform. Understanding the trade-offs, opportunities and risks in choosing the architecture of your cloud infrastructure platform is to succeed in cloud computing – for both the providers and consumers of cloud business services. This presentation will open and introduce the conference track devoted to cloud infrastructure platform issues and decisions.
Application Platforms for Cloud Computing: Scenario
29 November, 2011 (11:15 AM - 12:15 PM)
Application Platforms as a Service (aPaaS) provide the foundation for business systems offered as cloud services. They play the role of application servers – in the cloud context. For many users the choice of an aPaaS is the first technology choice they make on the way of adopting cloud computing. Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, Red Hat, VMware, Salesforce.com, Google, SAP – all compete to be your first choice in cloud computing. This presentation examines the real options, opportunities and risks that users face in the aPaaS market.
Business Process Management Suites: Carrying the Flow From the Enterprise to the Cloud and Back
29 November, 2011 (02:15 PM - 03:15 PM)
A business process spans business interactions between systems, people or systems and people. A BPMS is used to help organizations identify and automate business processes and to cope with frequent process changes by empowering business stakeholders to make changes to the process models. As cloud computing matures many business processes begin to incorporate cloud-based systems and many BPMS become available as cloud services. This presentation will examine the dynamics of the cloud-enabled business process management.
Database Management in the Cloud
30 November, 2011 (08:30 AM - 09:30 AM)
Many organizations are struggling to distinguish between true database Platform as a Service and the use of a DBMS – or just a datastore - running “in the cloud.” Use cases will dictate which is most appropriate.
System Infrastructure Services (IaaS)
30 November, 2011 (02:00 PM - 03:00 PM)
The fastest growing layer of cloud computing is infrastructure as a service for computing and storage services. The rapid growth of on-premises virtualization and the development of private and hybrid clouds is also motivating service providers to offer interoperability options to existing on-premises architectures.
Case Study: Best Practices in Using Platform as a Service for Enterprise IT Projects - Lockheed Martin
01 December, 2011 (08:30 AM - 09:30 AM)
Programmable cloud infrastructure platforms (PaaS) are new and many organizations that use them – use them for less-demanding, less-critical applications to track the maturity of the industry (and not leap ahead of it). In this session we examine the best practices of using cloud platforms and SOA and hear from Mel Greer at Lockheed Martin on their decision making, success factors and lessons learned in the process.
Cloud + In Memory: A Recipe for Breakthrough Applications
01 December, 2011 (10:30 AM - 11:30 AM)
Relentless innovation in software technology will foster radically new application paradigms. Cloud transaction processing, in-memory computing and new programming models enable applications so far simply unthinkable, which will deliver business value in a “blink of an eye” to global audiences.
Case Study: Governance of Cloud Services in a Hybrid World (Apollo Group)
01 December, 2011 (01:45 PM - 02:45 PM)
This case study will be introduced by a Gartner Analyst presentation, positioning SOA governance in the new world of off premise and mobile applications, and introducing a new magic quadrant. The presentation will be followed by a case study, which will highlight a practical user experience in governing services.
