Gartner Enterprise Architecture Summit

Steve Albers is the Business Architecture lead within Enterprise Architecture, with over 20 years of experience in Business and IT. Currently he is building the capability model for Mercy’s Virtual Care Center by working with those service line leaders. Steve is motivated by rapid change and creating value through analyzing and reengineering business processes and their underlying technical systems. The fullness of his successes is in developing business relationships with senior leaders, gaining an understanding of their vision and drivers, and translating this information into a capability model framework which is used for Mercy’s technology planning and sustained value.

Philip Allega is a managing vice president with Gartner Research, where he coaches Gartner's core enterprise architecture (EA) analysts in the development of Gartner's EA research. He helps clients realize the value of EA as a strategic discipline by focusing on business outcomes. Mr. Allega covers disciplines that include EA, enterprise program management, IT portfolio management, and IT strategy and planning. His practical advice concerning IT investments and management processes has been sought after by senior IT leadership teams in both public sector and Forbes Global 1000 organizations across Europe and North America.

Scott Bittler is a research vice president in Gartner's Business of IT Research division. He is recognized as a leading authority on enterprise architecture, IT strategy and portfolio management. Bringing over 26 years of IT industry experience, a successful track record of accomplishment, and a tremendous body of best-practice client knowledge, he publishes leading-edge research and very actively serves clients as a trusted advisor, coach, educator and workshop facilitator. Mr. Bittler is an in-demand speaker on enterprise architecture, IT strategy and portfolio management. He has served clients across all seven continents, including more than 100 of the Global 2000 largest companies and numerous government clients at the federal, state/provincial and municipal levels.

Cathleen Blanton focuses on enterprise architecture, primarily in the federal sector, but she also leads Gartner's EA practice, which affords her the opportunity to lead solution development for Gartner's EA offerings and to coordinate with EA research analysts. Since joining Gartner in November 2003, and for eight years prior to Gartner, Ms. Blanton has led numerous EA projects as lead architect and has worked with many clients to structure their EA programs to optimize business value.

Marcus Blosch, Ph.D., is a VP of research on Gartner's Enterprise Architecture team based in Asia/Pacific. His area of research is using enterprise architecture to drive business transformation and change. He also covers regional issues, particularly emerging markets, and has a specialty in logistics and supply chain issues.

Richard Buchanan is a research vice president in Gartner, where he collaborates with a veteran enterprise architecture team that focuses on knowledge transfer, thought leadership and pragmatic strategic problem solving. Mr. Buchanan specializes in enterprise architecture, business and IT strategy, change management, radical innovation, and enterprise portfolio management. He is one of Gartner's most-sought-after speakers and workshop facilitators for companies around the world.

Brian Burke is an analyst for Gartner, specializing in enterprise architecture and IT portfolio management, and most recently developing research on the emerging gamification trend. His groundbreaking work in the development of federated architectures has been implemented in hundreds of organizations in both the public and private sectors. He is also a prominent researcher and speaker in the areas of IT strategy, IT organizational structures and business/IT alignment.

Betsy Burton is a vice president and distinguished analyst in Gartner Research, where she is a member of the Enterprise Architecture team and leads research on business architecture, and business capability modeling. In addition, Ms. Burton is actively involved in research on the "Future of EA 2020," bridging the gap between strategy and execution and integrating business and IT. Previously, Ms. Burton was the role service director for the Gartner Business Intelligence and Information Management product.

Ian Dumanski is an Enterprise Architect for the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), Canada’s lead agency for development assistance, where he leads the Business capability modeling and requirement gathering for the Business Modernization initiative within CIDA. In addition, Mr. Dumanski is actively involved with Government of Canada Enterprise Architecture, Center of Practice, which focuses on defining, and scoping, Enterprise Architecture practices within the government of Canada. Previously, Mr. Dumanski was in the role of Solution Architect focusing on Service Oriented Architecture Center of Excellence, Identity Management and E-Business, as well as other Architecture roles in both the Federal government and the Private sector. Mr. Dumanski has studied Business Administration at St. Lawrence College in Kingston, Ontario, and Computer Systems: Programming at Algonquin College, Ottawa Ontario, where he graduated with Honors.

Dave Guevara is a research director covering enterprise architecture. His areas of focus are the enterprise solution architecture (ESA), business strategic alignment of IT, and how EA relates to other disciplines. He led the team that developed the BankXYZ example materials that Gartner clients use as examples of EA artifacts, the application of Gartner recommendations for the EA program, and stakeholder engagement.

Paul Helmering has twenty years experience in business intelligence, data management, software development, process improvement, and enterprise architecture. He currently supports enterprise business, information, and technology strategies and transformations as the Executive Director of Enterprise Architecture, and was previously responsible for establishing the Business Intelligence capability for the Mercy Health System. He formerly led a Business Intelligence consulting line of service supporting several Fortune 500 companies, and was financial controller of a software product and service company. He has an economics degree from Harvard University, and has published several articles on the topics of business process mining and visualization software.

Ms. Elizabeth (Beth) A. McGrath is the Department of Defense (DoD) Deputy Chief Management Officer (DCMO). In this role, she leads the Department’s efforts to better synchronize, integrate and coordinate defense business operations and serves as the Principal Staff Assistant (PSA) and advisor to the Secretary and Deputy Secretary of Defense for matters relating to management and the improvement of DoD’s business practices. Ms. McGrath also serves as the DoD Performance Improvement Officer, Milestone Decision Authority for many of the Department’s Major Automated Information Systems, and is responsible for formulating the legislatively mandated Departmental Strategic Management Plan.

George J. Mitchell served as U.S. Special Envoy for Middle East Peace from January 2009 to May 2011. Prior to that he had a distinguished career in public service. He was appointed to the United States Senate in 1980 to complete the unexpired term of Sen. Edmund S. Muskie, who resigned to become Secretary of State. He was elected to a full term in the Senate in 1982 in a stunning come-from-behind victory. Mitchell went on to an illustrious career in the Senate spanning 15 years. In 1988, he was reelected with 81 percent of the vote, the largest margin in Maine history. He left the Senate in 1995 as the Senate majority leader, a position he had held since January 1989. In 1995, he served as a Special Advisor to President Clinton on Ireland, and from 1996 to 2000 he served as the Independent Chairman of the Northern Ireland Peace Talks. Under his leadership the Good Friday Agreement, an historic accord ending decades of conflict, was agreed to by the governments of Ireland and the United Kingdom and the political parties of Northern Ireland. For his service in Northern Ireland Mitchell received numerous awards and honors, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor given by the U.S. Government; the Philadelphia Liberty Medal; the Truman Institute Peace Prize and the United Nations (UNESCO) Peace Prize. Mitchell currently serves as chairman emeritus and Ex Officio Member of the global board for international law firm DLA Piper. He previously served as chairman of the Board of Directors of The Walt Disney Company; a member of the Board of the Boston Red Sox and a director of several companies, including Federal Express, Xerox, Staples, Unilever and Starwood Hotels and Resorts. In 2008, TIME magazine named Mitchell one of the 100 most influential persons in the world.

David Newman is a vice president in Gartner Research, where he is a member of the Enterprise Architecture team, specializing in enterprise architecture, information architecture and enterprise information management. Mr. Newman serves clients as advisor, coach, educator and workshop facilitator. He has more than 30 years of experience in information technology. He received the Gartner Thought Leadership Award in 2006 for pioneering Gartner's research in enterprise information management.

Bruce Robertson is a research vice president and distinguished analyst at Gartner, transitioning from enterprise architecture (EA) to business process management (BPM) research. Mr. Robertson focuses on BPM topics, including the BPM discipline and related roles, business architecture (and connecting BPM to EA) and BPM business cases, including metrics. Mr. Robertson also focuses on EA topics such as integrated solution strategies to leverage technology appropriately for applications, enterprise technology architecture and infrastructure planning process, and applied technology models such as technical patterns and services. He is co-author of "The Adaptive Enterprise: IT Infrastructure Strategies to Manage Change and Enable Growth" and "Enriching the Value Chain: Infrastructure Strategies Beyond the Enterprise." His expertise covers BPM roles, BPM metrics, EA, enterprise technology architecture, enterprise solution architecture, technical patterns, technical services, middleware, networking and identity infrastructure.

Carol Rozwell is a vice president and distinguished analyst on Gartner's Content, Collaboration and Social team. Ms. Rozwell explores social business strategy, including social media, social networks and collaborative communities. Prior to her current assignment, Ms. Rozwell focused her research on technology and standards for R&D productivity in the pharmaceutical industry. She joined Gartner during the e-business frenzy and helped clients electrify their business processes. She brings to her role extensive practical experience as an implementer of buy-side and sell-side e-commerce systems that is augmented by positions in marketing, consulting and strategic alliance management.

Julie Short is a research director at Gartner specializing in enterprise architecture (EA). With her extensive background in all IT disciplines, she specializes in EA as it pertains to program and project management, governance, risk and compliance, and infrastructure and operations.

Asheesh Singh is director of solution architecture in Cummins Inc. where he has led the adoption of architecture practices, especially in solution design and architecture governance. His team has architects in multiple countries across four continents and is reshaping the relationship between regional ABO and IT organization. Key business initiatives that he is currently supporting includes global manufacturing strategy, global logistics and integrated distribution systems. His team is also actively building a repository of design standards, segment architectures, and design patterns for the enterprise.

Prior to this role, Rick led the Rational WW Enterprise Modernization community of practice and worked with enterprise clients to develop enterprise SDLC and application modernization strategies. Rick focuses on helping companies’ solve their business problems through incorporation of modern IT methods, tools and skills. Prior to joining IBM, Rick was an HP Distinguished Technologist and Strategist and served as the Americas’ Program Manager for Hewlett Packard’s Application Modernization Services; bringing more than twenty-seven years of experience in business development, account management, project management and software development to the company. Rick’s responsibilities included Business Strategy Development and served as the company’s Chief Architect for Application Modernization and software re-engineering.

Val Sribar is group vice president and leader of Gartner's Enterprise Software Research group. This group covers areas such as application development, BI, cloud computing, collaboration, content management, CRM, ERP, integration/middleware, portals, and social software/media. This coverage includes the entire application life cycle, from business requirement analysis through design/package selection, testing/QA, deployment, and ongoing application maintenance and support. The group includes experts in Web technologies (e.g., Web 2.0 and portals), service-oriented architecture (SOA), agile methodologies, application platforms, and enterprise service buses. A wide variety of application sourcing and delivery alternatives, including software as a service (SaaS), are also covered by application analysts. Mr. Sribar's personal areas of expertise focus on Pattern-Based Strategies(tm) and overall application strategy and governance. He works with clients on application portfolio management, application organizational models, staffing and skills, sourcing, strategic vendor relationships, and application financials.

Mahesh Subramanian is the Practice Director – EA & Process Consulting of HCL Technologies, a global IT services major. He has over 23 years of professional experience both in business and IT and has performed diverse roles from consulting to delivery, project and product management. Mahesh has been instrumental in growing HCL’s EA & Process Consulting since inception under the larger Enterprise Transformation Services (ETS) group. He has led the practice in a variety of IT and strategic consulting roles globally and also in development of EA consulting assets, frameworks and competence centers helped by his architecture teams.

Leif-Olof Wallin is a research vice president in Gartner Research, where he advises enterprise clients on all aspects of networking infrastructure and services. He is the global key initiative lead for Mobile Enterprise Strategy within Gartner and also the agenda manager of the associated research agenda. His research has a special focus on enterprise mobility, where he pays special attention to mobile application infrastructure, mobile security, remote access, mobile device management and enterprise sourcing of mobile applications.
