Roles and Responsibilities

Daniel B. Stang is a Research Vice President in Gartner Research, covering project and portfolio management (PPM) applications. His expertise includes PPM process definition, adoption and automation. Mr. Stang tracks more than 60 PPM software vendors and their products annually, as part of a continuous research process. He is the lead analyst for Gartner's PPM software market research and analysis; the founder of Gartner's "PPM Market Universe" of PPM market analysis and research reports; and lead author on multiple Magic Quadrants and Market Guides, including the Magic Quadrants for Project and Portfolio Management Software and Integrated IT Portfolio Analysis (IIPA), as well as the Market Guide for Strategy Execution Management (SEM) Software. As part of his duties, Mr. Stang helps Gartner clients define PPM and portfolio management processes for their organizations and create strategies for automating them. He can help clients build PPM and other product shortlists based on their specific needs. His research includes overviews of PPM technologies to help Gartner clients compare prospective vendor offerings, while making software investment decisions. Mr. Stang also provides consulting and advisory services for a number of PPM and other software vendors operating in the PPM and other markets.
