Roles and Responsibilities

Ken McGee is a VP and research analyst within Gartner's CIO research team. Mr. McGee specializes in the areas of IT budgets, IT cost-optimization, conventional IT cost cutting, radical IT cost cutting and the business value of IT. He has extensive experience researching economic, financial and business matters that are either heavily influenced by and/or heavily dependent upon IT. Mr. McGee also assists CEOs, CFOs and other senior executives improve their understanding of new emerging business and technology issues such as Digital Business and other digital strategies. Mr. McGee also serves as one of only 14 other Research Fellows at Gartner and is currently leading a Research Fellows project called "The Total Costs of Digital Strategies." Other Research Fellow projects he has led include: 1) "The Gartner Scenario," Gartner's annual report on the IT industry, 2) Future Skills Needed By Future CIOs, 3) The Knowledge Economy and 4) Who Will Be Next To Be Automated Out Of Their Jobs? Mr. McGee is the author of the book "Heads Up," published by Harvard Business School Press, which analyzes how individuals and organizations can effectively use real-time information to achieve a competitive advantage. Before joining Gartner, Mr. McGee held senior IT positions at Goldman, Sachs and Co. and Citi Group in New York and Salomon Brothers in New York and London.
