Simon Jacobson is a Vice President in Gartner's supply chain research organization and covers manufacturing operations. Mr. Jacobson advises clients responsible for manufacturing strategy and performance. His research helps clients develop transformational roadmaps and implement their strategies for smart manufacturing and Industrie 4.0. This spans the foundational competencies of production systems and quality management to the impacts of artificial intelligence, IoT, and advanced analytics on how factories can be managed in the future. Mr. Jacobson frequently presents at industry events worldwide and is quoted often in the press.

Mr. Jacobson previously led Gartner's MES/MOM coverage. He joined Gartner in 2009 with the acquisition of AMR Research where he was a member of the manufacturing strategy team which introduced Manufacturing 2.0 as a framework for next-generation manufacturing and precursor to today's Industrie 4.0 and smart manufacturing tenets. The team also developed the core model for enterprise manufacturing intelligence (EMI), which today is the foundation for advanced analytics in manufacturing operations. Mr. Jacobson also led AMR Research's coverage of strategic manufacturing technologies including MES, quality management systems (QMS), environmental health and safety (EH&S), and mid-tier ERP applications.
