What Is a Shared Services Center, What Is Its Purpose and Why Is That an Important Question?
Prior to his becoming a Research Director for Gartner, you may have seen Mr. Cannon's name whizz past your eyes while watching TV, as he worked for the BBC for 15 years. Since those heady days, Mr. Cannon spent the next 15 years being the managing director of a software company and the founding CEO of an innovative award-winning data integration company. While at Plymouth City Council, he was the CIO and then program director for ICT shared services before becoming the interim chief executive for the Devon-based shared services provider, Delt Services, and he was responsible for forming the partnership of four local authorities and the largest clinical commissioning group in England, agreeing to form a new joint venture company. In 2012, he was voted one of the TechRepublic CIO50, a group of the most influential and innovative CIOs in the U.K. He also sat on the South West Socitm committee and was a member of the local CIO Council, seeking to improve the adoption of strategies such as Planting the Flag and furthering shared services. He also worked with various vendor groups, sitting on U.K. advisory boards for both Microsoft and IBM.
