Lowell Shulman is the Managing Vice President for the Data Center Infrastructure and Management team within Gartner's Technology & Service Provider Data Center research group. Mr. Shulman is responsible for managing global analysts that explore server, storage and integrated systems technology trends and disruptors for on-premises and cloud infrastructure. The team provides focused insights and advise to product strategy and product management teams as well as go-to-market plan guidance. Previously, he performed as a Research Director within the Data Center Infrastructure Strategies (DCIS) team in the Gartner for Technology Professionals (GTP) group covering enterprise storage software and data protection/recovery topics with a focus on backup and disaster recovery. Mr. Shulman has 30 years of experience in the IT industry, with broad knowledge in multiple infrastructure domains across architectural, engineering and operational disciplines. He has performed in a variety of IT roles from engineering/operations management to vendor product management, sales and consulting positions.

Background

Previous Experience

Prior to joining Gartner, Mr. Shulman was responsible for managing data center and network services for Bridgewater Associates, a large financial management firm. His key projects at Bridgewater included design, build out and migration to new data center colocation facilities with supporting network, storage, compute and external connectivity (DMZ) infrastructure. As manager of the Platform Engineering team, he managed compute, storage and network engineering teams responsible for next-generation technology standards, as well as life cycle management across these services. Previously, Mr. Shulman was Director, Technical Product Management for Symantec (Veritas), where he was responsible for developing/executing programs in support of storage management and high-availability solutions. Programs included competitive analyses and technical whitepapers as well as tactics playbooks for sales enablement. He started his career at IBM, where he held a variety of positions, from Programmer to Unix (AIX) Field Sales Specialist before starting consulting practices for IBM/Tivoli resellers/partners.
