David McCoy leads the Enterprise Architecture/Technology Innovation (EA/TI) and Program and Portfolio Management (PPM) arm of Gartner's IT Leaders research group. This research team is tasked with guiding clients through a three-phase process of innovation: 1. Envisioning opportunities for technology-based innovation (TI component) 2. Enabling key enterprise capabilities to architect the business to engage with and leverage technology innovation (EA component) 3. Ensuring delivery of business value through strong program and portfolio management (PPM component) Mr. McCoy, a Gartner Fellow Emeritus, is an award-winning writer and thought leader on business and IT topics. He has been a radio host, software developer, entrepreneur, college instructor, consultant, blogger, and magazine and newspaper columnist.
David W. McCoy's Recent Gartner Activity
Most recently, Mr. McCoy managed Gartner's IT Procurement and Asset Management team, which delivers quantifiable savings through "must have" client advice, contract proposal reviews and software audit guidance. Before that, he led the Business Process Management (BPM) team and the EITL/ESCL analyst teams. He co-created and led Gartner's first annual Predicts research process, established Gartner's first research agenda management process, co-led the Gartner Fellows, created Gartner's Academic Roundtable, was editor in chief of the monthly Gartner Spotlight on Application Integration, managed the application integration research team, initiated Gartner's BPM research, co-initiated Gartner's Business Activity Monitoring (BAM) research, and led the team building Gartner's research operating and governance models. Mr. McCoy once led Gartner's research on document imaging, workflow and related electronic workplace topics, serving as Product Champion on two Gartner products: IDOM and IEW. Prior to joining Gartner in 1995, Mr. McCoy worked at Deloitte & Touche as a management consultant, where he focused on strategic information systems planning, document imaging systems, open-system networking and future technology analysis that included researching and speaking on the emerging internet's role in enterprises.
