Gartner Executive Programs held a series of CIO personal-effectiveness workshops at Orlando Symposium/ITxpo. One of them was on using the neurolinguistic programming (NLP) model of “Perceptual Positions” — the skill of intentionally adopting other points of view — to better understand situations and dynamics, and to positively influence people, relationships and negotiations. The 50+ participating CIOs found that they intuitively understood the technique, but most did not intentionally use it as part of their work. Virtually all of them agreed that practice and use of this technique would improve their personal and professional effectiveness.
