As organizations continue to have aggressive transformation and digitalization goals, enterprise risk management (ERM)  leaders struggle to manage and mitigate risk.

Every year, Gartner surveys its global membership to surface the key challenges facing ERM leaders. This year, we surveyed 80 ERM executives — four key challenges around rapid transformation and digitalization emerged:

  1. Risk is not sufficiently incorporated into the strategic planning process
  2. Major strategic initiatives are agreed to without sufficient risk assessment
  3. Late detection of new and emerging risks
  4. Curenty key risk indicators (KRIs) are low quality

To identify and mitigate risk in this dynamic environment, ERM leaders need to be aligned to strategic objectives and deliver higher-quality risk insights to drive management action and get ahead of new and emerging risks.
