According to the World Economic Forum's Global Gender Gap Report 2022, Japan's gender gap index ranks at 116 out of 146 countries, the lowest among the G7 countries by a wide margin. Japan's GDP is the third in the world, overtaken by China and expected to be overtaken by India within a few years. Its GDP per capita and happiness ranking are even lower at twenty-seventh and forty-seventh position, respectively. Japanese CIOs have a clear mission to leverage digital technology and aim for a one-shot reversal in this highly uncertain business environment.
