Hiromichi Komori

General manager of general Affairs Dept, Sumitomo Life Insurance Company
Mr. Komori joined Sumitomo Life Insurance Company in 1992.
After joining Sumitomo Life, he worked in some departments of management area, where he was mainly in charge of company-wide profit management, personnel system design, and workforce planning. He then moved to Overseas Business Division in 2016, when Symetra, a U.S. life insurance company, was acquired and became a subsidiary of Sumitomo Life, and subsequently assumed chief of New York Representative Office.
Since 2021, he has been in his current position, responsible for relocation of the Tokyo headquarters and new work style project.

Case Study: Creating our new Tokyo head office that promotes workplace communication

While hybrid work style has spread rapidly in the coronavirus pandemic, it has also caused some adverse effects. In particular, both managers and non-managers have complained that communication has become more difficult. Under these circumstances, we relocated to new Tokyo headquarters in February 2023, and at that time, we created our new office with emphasis on revitalizing communication. We also renewed our ICT tools and are taking on challenge of new ways of working. And we appointed communication facilitators at the same time as relocation. We will introduce examples of our efforts and direction we are aiming for, including activities of facilitators.
