In 2002, he joined IBM Japan, and as a data scientist, helped perform multipronged analysis of customer data and tackled the company's various issues from the perspective of data and data analysis. As an evangelist, he communicated the value of utilizing big data in business. He served as vice director of Opt Holding Inc.'s Data Science Lab, then in 2016 took a position as chief data scientist at Sompo Holdings' department of digital strategy. His role there is to build and execute group-wide strategies to maximally utilize data, an essential resource for businesses today. Since April 2014, he has also served as a visiting associate professor at Tsukuba University Graduate School, helping prepare future data scientists for the corporate world. He has served as the director of the Japan Data Scientist Society since April 2017.
