Integrate Your Cloud Security Posture with Identity and Access Management

The cloud is one of the biggest challenges an organization’s security teams face today. Between users accessing unapproved cloud services or mishandling data even in approved ones, organizations are in a fix.

Though the identity and access management (IAM) programs help to a great extent, they aren’t enough. This is where cloud access security brokers (CASB) come in and add an extra layer of security. They can be described as a software tool or service that sits between an organization's on-premises and a cloud provider's infrastructures.

Gartner’s experts outline some of the ways where IAM and CASB can complement each other and improve organizations’ security.

Manage third-party applications

It’s tough to manage mobile and third-party applications as they have access to data. CASBs provide a centralized interface to discover, report and restrict the use of these apps.

Trigger identity management events

CASBs feature real-time risk analysis functionality to alert organizations of an unusual event within a cloud system as well as deactivate a user from all systems.

Use step-up authentication

CASBs help organizations discover abnormal behaviors through their risk analysis capabilities, prompting users for a step-up authentication.

Discover and limit the use of corporate credentials in unsanctioned applications

CASBs also help organizations discover usage of unsanctioned applications and automatically block access or provide tools to help onboard the unsanctioned application to the IAM infrastructures securely.
