CIO Experience: Hope invites - The Power of Dreams
Tsutomu Uematsu, President, Uematsu Electric Co., Ltd,
Do you think you could work in space exploration? Most people think, "I've never done anything like that before, so of course I couldn't." But people are always doing things they have never done before. If you try, you can do it.
Children are eager to try things they have never done before. But at some point, adults tell them, "You've never done that before, so give up," and they think they won't be able to do it. They learn to give up.
When someone learns to give up, they lose self-confidence. And when people lose self-confidence, they also lose empathy.
The world is changing greatly, and we need new types of jobs. It's people with empathy, rooted in self-confidence, who can create those jobs. That's because empathy is the ability to notice when people have problems, like pain or sadness, and need to be helped.
I hope that this session will help remind you of people's potential and the importance of self-confidence.
