Dan Walker currently leads BP’s Technology Futures team. The purpose of the team is to generate strategic insights about the opportunities and threats posed by emerging technology in the energy industry. These insights help shape BP group and business strategy and frame how we communicate our position on emerging technologies both internally and externally. The team’s work includes in-depth technical studies (deep dives), regional technolo-gy reviews, thought leadership podcasts, and the Emerging Technology Top 20. Previously, Dan established and led BP’s first cross-company emerging and disrup-tive technology team, and prior to that he held a number of technical and commer-cial management roles in major project delivery, drilling and production. Outside of the energy industry, Dan pursued post-doctoral research in fluid and structural dynamics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and held a lectureship in Engineering Science at the University of Oxford. He is a chartered mechanical engineer and a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
