We'll cover how we’ve determined the most material aspects to prioritise, how we’re working with our IT partners and suppliers, including a deep dive on cloud emissions reporting, and how we are educating our teams on what sustainability means and how they can make a meaningful contribution. Alison McGurk
Head of Arcitecture - Operations
Alison is Head of Architecture for Operations at AstraZeneca. She has worked at AstraZeneca for five years, having previously been in senior enterprise architecture roles at the Co-op, Sainsbury’s and Tesco. In addition to her experience in the pharmaceutical and retail industries, Alison started her career in consumer goods, spending ten years at Unilever in a variety of IT roles after joining on their graduate programme.
At AstraZeneca, Alison leads a team of 35 enterprise and solution architects who have responsibility for the architecture across the Operations business, which includes pharmaceutical technology development, manufacturing, quality, supply chain and procurement. An additional aspect of her role is being the IT2025 Sustainability priority lead, which is a core area of AstraZeneca’s IT strategy. She leads a team of representatives from across IT who are both identifying and taking action on how to materially improve IT’s sustainability, and increasing the IT department’s understanding of Sustainability at AZ, and how they can contribute to make a difference.
Alison was recently included in Computing’s IT Leaders 100 list for 2022. With a background in geophysics, Alison has a PhD in geology, and an MBA from the University of Manchester. She lives in south Manchester with her husband and two teenage sons, and outside of work Alison is a prize winning baker, guinea pig owner, and enjoys exploring holiday destinations with interesting rocks.
