Astrophysicist, Cosmologist, Planetary Scientist, Author, and Science Communicator
Neil de Grasse Tyson is a renowned astrophysicist, best-selling author, documentary series host, and science communicator.
Neil was born and raised in New York City. He earned his BA in Physics from Harvard and his PhD in Astrophysics from Columbia. Neil is the fifth head of the world-renowned Hayden Planetarium in New York City and the first occupant of its Frederick P. Rose Directorship. He is the recipient of twenty honorary doctorates and the NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal, the highest award given by NASA to a non-government citizen.
Neil is the author of over 15 books, including the best-sellers “The Sky is Not the Limit: Adventures of an Urban Astrophysicist”, “Origins: Fourteen Billion Years of Cosmic Evolution” and “Astrophysics for People In A Hurry”.
Hailed as the world's most effective science communicator, Neil has appeared on a multitude of podcasts and award-winning TV shows. Most notably, he served as executive Editor, on-camera Host and Narrator for “Cosmos: A SpaceTime Odyssey”. The show appeared in 181 countries in 45 languages around the world on the National Geographic Channels. It won four Emmy Awards, a Peabody Award, two Critics Choice awards, as well as a dozen other industry recognitions.

His contributions to the public appreciation of the cosmos have been recognized by the International Astronomical Union in their official naming of asteroid “13123 Tyson.” On the lighter side, Neil was voted “Sexiest Astrophysicist Alive” by People Magazine in 2000!
