For many companies, reaching a sales and operations planning (S&OP) maturity
Stage 3 is an important milestone. At that stage, S&OP aligns sales, top-line finance and operational plans, and the scope of the process covers end-to-end supply chains. A mature Stage 3 S&OP process improves forecast accuracy, increases collaboration within functions and streamlines the translation of demand into the supply planning process. Yet, there is more to achieve using S&OP in maturity Stages 4 and 5. Decision making takes a central role in the S&OP and focus on decisions moves beyond demand and/or supply balancing.
