Sourcing for complex commodities like print can really put traditional sourcing applications to the test. The complexity of item types, configuration, and multilevel/variable attributes, coupled with the requirement for optimization across complex cost and value algorithms, differentiates print from typical category sourcing. This article reviews the complex category of print, the technology requirements, and the Four51 e-commerce backbone that enables an ecosystem of Kyocera Mita's buyers, dealers, and print suppliers, such as Prograde.
